Steps for Sisters Virtual 5K Registration Page

Register for $25, and run 3.1 miles in support of girls' education and International Women's Day!

A movement begins one girl at a time. In celebration of International Women’s Day, Women’s Global Education Project’s Associates’ Board invites you to participate in our 2nd Annual Steps for Sisters virtual 5K event!

Registration fees will be donated to support WGEP's girls’ education, literacy, and leadership initiatives in rural Kenya and Senegal. Below is a snapshot of what donations of every level can do:

  • $25 supports one backpack filled with school supplies for one girl! WGEP provides more than 1,000 girls living in remote, rural regions of Senegal & Kenya with comprehensive school scholarships to help them attend and succeed in school.
  • $35 provides seven students with culturally-sensitive storybooks to improve their literacy skills and increase their love of reading!
  • $50 supports five hygiene kits filled with menstrual products, soap, and other toiletries for five adolescent girls, so that they can focus on their studies, not on their periods!
  • $100 supports one year of adult literacy classes for 5 mothers. When mothers learn to read, write, and manage their household finances, they can better support their daughters' education!

Step out in purple between the dates of March 1-11th and be sure to share your photos on Instagram using tag #StepsForSisters and tagging @womensglobal @womensglobalypb! Registration fees are $25 per person. Please register by March 1, 2023 to receive your printable race bib.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2023 Steps for Sisters Virtual 5k! With your support (and including offline donations), we exceeded our fundraising goal to raise $3,700!! As a high-impact, community-driven organization, donations of every amount go a long way! Below is a snapshot of what the $3,700 raised could mean for our programs:

  • 148 backpacks filled with school supplies for adolescent girls. Each year, WGEP provides more than 1,000 girls living in remote, rural regions of Senegal & Kenya with comprehensive school scholarships to help them attend and succeed in school
  • A year of adult literacy classes for 185 mothers, where they learn to read, write, and manage household finances among a community of their peers
  • 370 hygiene kits filled with menstrual products, soap, and other toiletries for five adolescent girls, so that they can focus on their studies, not on their periods!
  • 740 culturally-sensitive storybooks to primary school children in after-school literacy clubs, who can develop their reading skills and a lifelong love of learning

We sincerely appreciate your support.

Gratefully,

The WGEP Associates' Board
