The Cambridge Veterinary Access Fund (CVAF) is a community-based initiative dedicated to keeping pets and their families together by removing financial barriers to veterinary care. We serve income-limited pet owners in Cambridge, Massachusetts (households at or below 150% of the federal poverty level) and surrounding towns who are increasingly facing the impossible choice between putting food on the table and the health of their animals.
CVAF operates a two-track model designed to address the full spectrum of pet health needs in partnership with local clinics. The first track provides an annual preventive care voucher covering core wellness services including vaccines, parasite prevention, and routine diagnostics. The second track offers needs-based grants on a sliding-scale co-pay basis for dental care and the management of chronic conditions, the two leading categories driving financial hardship and surrender decisions among low-income pet owners.
