THEY MATTER

"Because THEY MATTER, and we believe that every life has value."

Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention (AASP THEY MATTER), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in East Tennessee and dedicated to reminding people that every life has value because #THEYMATTER.

Our main outreach mission is The HOPE Project, a growing collection of suicide prevention, awareness, encouragement, and community-support programs created to reach people before crisis, during hardship, and in the lonely spaces where many silently struggle. The HOPE Project exists for individuals and families facing depression, isolation, grief, trauma, chronic illness, bullying, emotional overwhelm, financial hardship, unsafe circumstances, or seasons where hope feels difficult to find.

We believe suicide prevention is not only about crisis response. It is also about connection, early support, practical encouragement, emotional safety, education, and reminding people that they are seen, valued, and not alone.

Through The HOPE Project, we provide programs and outreach efforts such as Winter Letters of Hope, Hope Boxes, The Hope Key, The Heart of Hope, The Hope Stocking, The Hope Outpost for Men, The Hope Hearth for Women, The Hope Nest, The Pumpkin of Hope, Growing Smiles, THEY MATTER Rocks, Hope Drop gaming kindness outreach, I MATTER Alert Cards, anti-bullying resources, self-reflection tools, educational worksheets, workbooks, hope poems, community encouragement projects, and seasonal outreach efforts.

Our work happens locally in Tennessee and across the United States through mailed encouragement, volunteer participation, community outreach, online support spaces, awareness campaigns, educational tools, anonymous acts of kindness, and practical hope-filled resources. Some programs are seasonal, such as Winter Letters of Hope and East Tennessee’s Lights of Hope, while others continue throughout the year as funding, volunteers, and community needs allow.

We do this by meeting people where they are. Sometimes hope looks like a letter in the mailbox. Sometimes it looks like a small teal box filled with encouragement. Sometimes it is a keychain reminding someone that their future is still worth unlocking. Sometimes it is a sunflower planted in memory or support of someone who matters. Sometimes it is a workbook, a safety resource, a kindness challenge, a gaming encouragement campaign, a hope-filled stocking, or a quiet reminder left for a stranger to find.

Every donation helps us continue building and sustaining these programs. Your support helps provide supplies, printing, postage, outreach materials, care items, educational resources, program development, community events, and the practical tools needed to keep hope moving.

When you give to AASP THEY MATTER, you are not simply funding a program. You are helping place hope into the hands of people who may feel forgotten. You are helping us remind someone, somewhere, that they are not invisible, not a burden, and not alone.

Because they matter.
Because hope matters.
Because one reminder at the right moment can help someone keep going.
