We are partnering with Voices Beyond Assault, a survivor led organization, to fiscally sponsor our film, Animal. Animal is bold, female-centric horror in the spirit of Promising Young Woman, The Substance, and Raw. Aiming to subvert female archetypes in cinema and genre tropes, Animal stands as a powerful exposé to amplify survivor’s voices. With 1 in 4 women experiencing sexual violence in their lives - something that is only being fueled by media rhetoric from the likes of Donald Trump and Andrew Tate - we’re confronting an epidemic of violence against women through a medium long known for its exclusion of women’s voices.
Voices Beyond Assault is a Survivor-led, BIPOC-inclusive nonprofit organization driven by a profound commitment to supporting and empowering ALL survivors of sexual violence on their journey towards healing, strength, and renewed hope. We advocate for justice, equality, and the eradication of sexual violence from our communities. Voices Beyond Assault amplifies survivors’ voices, creates safe and transformative spaces, and offers innovative, free therapeutic programs that address survivor’s mental health and PTSD. Through our dedicated efforts, we foster resilience, promote healing, and drive societal change.

Synopsis: Animal follows 22-year-old Harri out on a Friday night as she faces a reckoning - she’s been stood up. Unbeknownst to her, Harri has caught the attention of a suave, seemingly innocent stock analyst named Robert, who had her eyes on her the moment she walked through the door. The two share a palpable chemistry, carried by a flirtatious banter and although their attraction is measurable, Harri wishes to go no further with Robert.
As the night dwindles, Harri ends up black out drunk with only Robert to look out for her. He bundles her into a cab in an exchange which feels chivalrous…until he takes her to his address. Robert unwittingly takes advantage of Harri’s vulnerability and is met with his own reckoning - in the form of a monstrous entity.
A Movement - Not Just a Movie
We’re partnering with survivor-led organizations Voices Beyond Assault and Survivors.org, along with Right to Be on this project. Our aim with Animal is to have a meaningful impact on these organizations who work to provide resources for survivors and spaces to talk about their experiences. Through horror, Animal reclaims the narrative: it expresses how women are taught to shrink themselves, how desire can be warped by fear, and how our culture positions coercion as a “miscommunication.” This is not just a story about perpetrators, but about the systems that protect them. For us, cinema should provoke and offer catharsis with Animal being both a reckoning and an invitation to finally stop offering excuses to perpetrators. Rage is rarely explored organically through women on screen; through Animal we seek to highlight this and encourage women to feel empowered by their emotions regardless of how “messy” they may seem. Horror is used in a metaphorical and literal framing - the horror of being violated is met with the rage that follows.
In Praise of Intimacy Co-ordinators
Although Animal tackles a difficult subject, it does so with care for the autonomy of both actors. Too often, directors cross boundaries under the guise of artistic intent, assuming actors are comfortable with their bodies being controlled. Having an experienced intimacy coordinator on set is therefore imperative to making this project, not only for safety but also as a stance against productions that undermine the value of this essential role.
