Meet Cat — A Horse Who Deserves Her Happy Ending

Cat’s story is one of being passed along when she could no longer perform—an Arabian show horse who lost her purpose in the eyes of others and nearly lost her future because of it. When she came to us, she was kind, willing, and trying her heart out, but it didn’t take long to realize something deeper was wrong. Years of early hormone use, misunderstood care, and constant change had taken a toll on her body, leaving her with ongoing challenges like head-shaking syndrome, hormonal imbalance, and arthritis. At one point, we were even told it might be easier to let her go because she can’t perform—but she is comfortable, she enjoys her life, and she still has so much to give. Cat doesn’t need to perform to be worthy—she simply needs consistent care, the right medications, and people who believe her life matters. After losing her partial sponsor, she now needs a community to step in and help cover her monthly needs so she can continue living the safe, loved life she always deserved.

 Cat’s Journey

Cat is a 20-year-old Arabian/Quarter Horse cross who came to Melody’s Haven of Hope 10 years ago in need of a safe place to land after life had let her down more than once.

Her Early Story

She began her life as an Arabian show horse, but when she couldn’t perform due to conformational challenges, she was passed along. One of her owners—who truly cared for her—sadly passed away in her sleep, and everything changed for Cat from there.
She eventually ended up with people who didn’t understand horses and was even delivered to a property without something as basic as a water bucket. Later, she was left completely alone when the other horses moved away—something incredibly hard for a herd animal.
When we learned about her situation, we stepped in.

When Things Didn’t Add Up

When Cat first arrived, she was amazing—kind, willing, and trying her heart out. But it didn’t take long before we realized something wasn’t right.

Ongoing Health Challenges

Over time, we discovered she had been put on hormone treatments at a very young age and was dealing with multiple underlying health challenges, including hormonal imbalances, arthritis, severe allergies that caused painful hives, early cataracts, and neurological head-shaking syndrome.
We worked through countless options—testing, treatments, and different approaches—trying to help her feel better. Many things didn’t work… until we finally found Platinum Steady, the one thing that truly helped her head-shaking and brought her relief.

Choosing Comfort and Care

Despite her challenges, Cat is comfortable and enjoys her life with the herd.
We were even told at one point that we should consider putting her down simply because of her issues. But our veterinarians agreed—she is comfortable, she is living, and she still has quality of life. We believe horses should not be discarded just because they can no longer perform. Cat is a sweet, gentle soul who deserved better than the life she was given.

She Needs Us

For a while, she had a special person who helped sponsor her care—but after that person passed away, Cat now needs a community to step in for her.  Your support helps keep Cat comfortable, cared for, and safe—for life.

She Is Worth It

She is not disposable. She is not “too much.” She is worth it.
If you feel connected to Cat’s story, please consider sponsoring her—fully or partially
