The "Feed and Save Lives in Zimbabwe: Support Now" fundraiser aims to reignite hope and nourish both the body and spirit in a small but vibrant village just outside Harare, Zimbabwe. This vital initiative, managed by the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, seeks to address and eliminate hunger in communities by drawing on their mission to lead the effort against food insecurity. Since its inception in 1981, the Foodbank has played a crucial role in providing food to those in need throughout Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, as part of Feeding America™ and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.
In 2022, our journey led us to witness a poignant scene—seventy-five hopeful children lining up for what might be their only meal of the day. The sight was a humbling reminder of the deep-rooted poverty and desperation faced by so many. These children weren’t just receiving physical nourishment; they were also being fed spiritually with the Bread of Life—God’s Word. Volunteers shared Bible stories, sowing seeds of faith and hope amidst the profound need.
This heartwarming feeding program was the brainchild of a local pastor and his wife, who, despite working full-time jobs, invested their savings to turn their vision into reality. Unfortunately, after just two months, their funds ran dry, and the program had to shut down. This setback hit hard, especially as their community faced subsequent challenges, painting a dire picture of the urgent assistance required to sustain this initiative and its impactful mission.
Your support is pivotal. With your help, we can restart and sustain this feeding program, ensuring that these children receive consistent nourishment and continue to experience the love and hope embedded in their meals. Together, we can make a difference—nourishing bodies, empowering minds, and enriching lives. Join us in this life-saving mission to bring hope and sustenance to our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe.
