Guardians of the Dogs of Baroda

Two Women. Countless Dogs. A Story of Taking Action When The Problem Seems to Big to Fix.

The Mission

In December 2025, photographer and storyteller Mindy Dutka, founder of Dogs I Meet, a dog photography company will use her lens to capture compelling imagery along with storytelling to raise awareness and inspire positive change for dogs in need—and veterinary nurse and end-of-life care specialist Emily Piché, founder of The Art of Goodbye (theartofgoodbye.ca), which supports animals and their families through compassionate end-of-life care, will travel to Baroda, India. Their mission: to document and support the extraordinary work of Dr. Kuhu Roy and her mother, Hansa Roy, who have quietly devoted over 20 years to rescuing, feeding, and caring for the city’s most vulnerable street dogs.

Through the Roy's nonprofit, Bridging Rainbows Foundation (bridgingrainbows.org), they provide lifetime care to more than 300 dogs each day, ensuring daily feeding, spaying/neutering, vaccinations, medical treatment, and compassionate end-of-life support. Seniors, special-needs dogs, and those too frail to survive on the streets are brought into their home, where they receive comfort, safety, and love. When the time comes, every dog passes with dignity and respect.

They conduct daily food and first-aid runs, lead public awareness campaigns to promote spay/neuter, and advocate for the adoption of senior and special-needs dogs. Their “Give Animals a Brake” initiative calls for compassion from drivers on the roads, and they are the first and only nonprofit in India to offer free grief support for people mourning the loss of a companion animal—both locally and abroad.

Without staff or funding, they’ve already helped over 4,000 dogs in Baroda. Now, they need our help.

Why This Matters

This isn’t just a photo project. It’s a movement for dignity, compassion, and change.

Through powerful storytelling, photography, and real-time fieldwork, we will:

  • Elevate the voice of Bridging Rainbows Foundation (bridgingrainbows.org), Dr. Roy’s nonprofit promoting coexistence, pet grief awareness, and animal advocacy.
  • Advocate for humane care over cruelty, neglect, or impounding
  • Share the unseen reality of India's street dogs.

Your Donation Will Fund:

  • Travel and documentation to tell this story and spark global awareness
  • First-aid supplies and medical care for the street dogs

  • On-the-ground support for Dr. Roy and Hansa's work
  • Daily meals for 350+ dogs

The Bigger Picture

What’s happening in Baroda is happening in cities across the globe—where dogs are abandoned, ignored, or seen as threats instead of lives worth protecting. This story has the power to shift perceptions, educate communities, and inspire action.
