A champion racehorse is fighting for his life—and he needs our help.
Bold Endeavor has spent his life giving everything he had.
The stakes-placed gelding by Bernardini made 61 starts, won 15 races, and earned $634,884 for his connections. He competed from coast to coast, recorded multiple triple-digit Equibase Speed Figures—including two 104s and a career-best 114—and raced with the courage and determination of a true athlete.
Now, Bold Endeavor is fighting the most important battle of his life.
After developing a severe case of pneumonia, Bold Endeavor was admitted to the Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center. Veterinarians removed a large pocket of infection from the area of his right lung, and his chest must now be lavaged and packed daily as the medical team works tirelessly to help him recover.
Through every procedure, this sweet, stoic gelding has shown us exactly who he is. He is brave. He is kind. He is handling everything like the champion he has always been.
Most importantly, Bold Endeavor wants to live.
Turning For Home and Cleveland Yard are committed to giving him that chance. Several compassionate veterinarians have already made generous donations that enabled us to begin this lifesaving care, but Bold Endeavor’s medical expenses are quickly approaching $10,000 and continue to grow.
For the first time in Turning For Home’s 18-year history, we are asking the entire racing community to rally around one special horse.
Bold Endeavor gave nearly a decade of his life to racing and earned more than $630,000 for the industry. The cost of saving him is only a small portion of what he contributed throughout his long career—but it is more than we can manage alone.
We believe Bold Endeavor still has an important next chapter ahead of him. With his quiet strength and gentle nature, we can already imagine him someday becoming a wonderful therapy horse, helping people with the same patience and courage he is showing now.
But first, we must get him through this illness and bring him home.

An encouraging update from Bold Endeavor’s surgeon:
“We just finished lavaging Bold Endeavor, and he is his usual gentleman. The cavity is beginning to smell less awful and the tissue looks healthier, but there is still a long way to go. We will continue lavaging over the weekend and make a plan for his ongoing care once the cavity is smaller. His culture results are not back yet, so he will remain on IV medication until we know which oral antibiotic to use. And he gained 20 pounds this week!”
This horse is a warrior, and we are determined to bring him home. He traveled the country and brought joy to so many people. When he recovers, we hope to find him the safest, softest landing possible—perhaps even as an ambassador for a therapy program that helps both people and horses.
