A few days ago, we got a call from a 53-year-old Florida woman who lives with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC). You could hear the elevated stress in her voice as she left a message about her urgent financial need. And it is clear we need to do SOMETHING. Since our new nonprofit organization does not yet have any available funds, we are turning to YOU.
Diagnosed with MBC earlier this year, Niecy applied for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and should be hearing about an approval in January. (But she was told that she won't get any checks for around 30 days after she gets approval notification.) She currently has no income and receives only monthly SNAP (food stamp) benefits. She lives alone, and has no children. Her family has been trying to help her, but they also lack financial resources. She is already two months behind... and she won't have money for January's rent either.
MoreFor4, Inc. was created FOR people like Niecy who quickly discover that there are very few resources out there for rental and other cash assistance. Especially if someone needs help TODAY. But, as we said, we don't yet have available resources to be able to help her. Our Rapid Relief Fund (which is one component of our Rapid Response program) won't become available until at least the middle of next year. In other words, M44 has no way to help Niecy... without YOU.
Eventually, our Rapid Response program will help people like Niecy who apply for SSDI and won't see any payments for at least 4 months. (Rarely does the process go faster than this, and sometimes it may even take more than 4 months.) This multi-month "SSDI Bridge Support" will help people stay housed and financially afloat while they wait for approvals and monthly checks to start arriving. Of course, landlords and rental companies aren't generally known for patience when someone doesn't have income for a number of months. And that is what is happening to Niecy. She needs to come up with at least ONE month's (past due) rent, plus a late fee payment, in the (total) amount of $651.40. If she can't do this, her property manager says they must begin eviction proceedings. While the rental company has not been unkind to her, the threat ... the potentially devastating outcome... is the same. And so... we are issuing M44's first... CALL TO ACTION.
Even though M44 is not yet prepared to provide direct services for Stage IV cancer patients in need, we can't... and WON'T... just sit by and watch her lose her home. And that is why we are turning to you for help. Donations of all sizes are appreciated, and charitable contributions to M44 are tax-deductible as permitted by law.
NOTE: The photo of Niecy is AI generated, but it IS her. To protect the privacy of M44 service recipients, we do not require a photo at all. But Niecy was happy to supply this picture, along with all the other documentation we needed to verify her financial need and Stage IV cancer diagnosis. We can confirm: Niecy is VERY real. As is her crisis.
*If donations exceed the amount needed by Niecy, the remaining funds will be transferred to M44's general operating fund.
