Meet Rose — “She’s So Sweet”

At Melody’s Haven of Hope at Oregon Horsemanship, some horses come to us with big stories in very small packages… and Rose is one of those horses.  We were first told about Rose through someone in the miniature horse association when we realized we needed a smaller horse to support individuals who may feel unsure or intimidated around full-sized horses. Rose felt like the perfect fit—and she truly has been.

By the time Rose was just 4 years old, she had already gone through seven homes. Eventually, her original breeder welcomed her back, where Rose helped teach young horses how to be “real” horses just waiting for the perfect situation to find her. When we arrived to bring her home, she was everything we hoped for—tiny, gentle, and incredibly sweet. As we loaded her into the trailer, her breeder stood there in tears and said,
“Rose, I promised you a forever home…”

We carried that promise with us.

Roses’s Journey

Rose quickly became a cornerstone of our program. For those who feel nervous around larger horses, she offers a safe, approachable way to connect.  And her personality? It says it all.  We often joke that we should rename her:  Rose… “She’s So Sweet”  Because she truly is.

She has now been with us for over 11 years, living the life she always deserved—steady, loved, and part of something meaningful.

A few years ago, we received word that her breeder had passed away. Before she did, she asked friends to let us know how grateful she was that Rose had found her forever home. That message meant everything—and reaffirmed the promise we made that day.

Rose’s Care & Special Needs

Like many miniature horses, Rose requires consistent and specialized care—especially when it comes to her teeth and overall comfort.

Over the years, we’ve worked through a variety of “mystery” issues, including lethargy and ongoing dental challenges due to her small mouth.

We are excited to now have her on a program that is helping her feel her very best:

She also needs a dedicated volunteer to help gently rinse her mouth a few times each week to keep her comfortable and healthy as miniature horses can require extra dental care.
