Ascend is a women-led organization empowering young women in Afghanistan with the tools to lead, thrive, and shape their futures. (FEIN 46-3380394)Through a holistic, trauma-informed program, Ascend provides safe spaces where girls can learn, grow, and rebuild confidence despite the intense restrictions they face. At our center in Kabul, participants take part in leadership development, mental health and wellbeing training, physical fitness, entrepreneurship support, online education, and community service initiatives.
Ascend is building a powerful, interconnected network of Afghan girls who lift one another up, cultivate resilience, and take agency over their futures. Even in one of the most challenging environments in the world to be a girl, Ascend continues to operate, proving that hope, strength, and opportunity can still rise.
With every lesson, every connection, and every act of courage, these young women are redefining what is possible.I am deeply honored to share that I have joined the Board of Directors of Ascend Athletics, a nonprofit organization devoted to empowering women and girls inside Afghanistan through athletics, leadership development, mental health support, and community building. As an Afghan American, a former refugee, and an immigrant who fled Afghanistan as a child with my family, this role carries profound personal meaning. My journey - from a little girl learning to navigate a new culture to becoming a physician executive leader, and now serving on the Board of an organization committed to the next generation of Afghan women - reminds me of what becomes possible when communities invest in girls.
If you believe in the power of education, athletics, leadership, and representation…
If you believe that Afghan girls deserve the same chance to rise as girls anywhere…
I invite you to stand with me.
Your contribution today does more than fund a program.
It tells these young women: We see you. We believe in you. You matter.
