So how has Transportation & Construction GIRL changed lives?

Lilly came to Transportation & Construction GIRL Day when she was only 9 years old.  She said, “There were a lot of cool things that I just wanted to touch and feel and see and think about.  It was like - wow - look at all these things I can do.”  Lilly also said, “I think it’s really cool that you can go to a place and come home and have your mindset to a different world.”  Lilly’s mom said, “It’s been incredibly empowering to watch my daughter just flourish after this event.  There was a whole new level of confidence and she now believes the world is at her fingertips, which is what any parent wants for their child.  We are truly, truly lucky to have had this opportunity.”

Kailene came into Career Week for GIRLs with no anticipation of all she would learn.  There were hundreds of jobs she didn’t know existed.  She also met community leaders and made connections she will have for her future.  She said, “This experience totally exceeded my expectations.  I will never drive by a construction site and look at it the same way again.  This industry is looking for ways to be inclusive and that is important to me.  Every company welcomed me and talked about opportunities for my career.  No other industry has reached out to me like this.”

Sela was collecting rocks when her friends were collecting dolls.  Her world opened up when she learned she could be a geological engineer.  Transportation & Construction GIRL helped her with her scholarship application to the Colorado School of Mines.   She received the Florence Caldwell Scholarship - a 4 year scholarship.  And, what is her goal?  Sela plans on being a geological engineer on Mars!  Sela said, “I couldn’t be where I am today without Transportation & Construction GIRL.”
