These Dogs Were Born to Live, Not to be Eaten

About This Fundraiser

At the illegal dog meat farm in Hwaseong, South Korea, large kitchen knives had been stabbed into the cage doors — pointed directly at dogs who were only a few months old. These puppies watched their companions get killed in front of their eyes, one by one. No animal should have to live this way.

From April to June 2026, WEACT rescued 61 animals from the illegal dog meat farm in 4 different regions across Korea — 7 from Jeju, 11 from Suncheon, 22 from Seongnam, and 21 from Hwaseong. For most of these dogs, rescue brought a series of firsts: the first time stepping on grass, the first kind touch, the first moment of being treated with love. We hoped their nightmare was finally over. But rescue was only the beginning.

Years of neglect had taken a devastating toll. Most arrived suffering from severe illnesses, broken bodies, weakened immune systems, and diseases that required urgent medical care. Some are still in critical condition right now, and every day matters.

Yet despite everything, they still trust us. They wag their tails. They lean into our hands. They look at us as if they have already forgiven the world — and that breaks our hearts the most. Your donation funds lifesaving medical care, vaccinations, surgeries, food, shelter, and rehabilitation for dogs rescued from the dog meat industry.

These dogs survived the unimaginable. Now they deserve the chance to truly live.

Their suffering was not their choice. Their future can be.
