We are going on a trip to visit the Jewish communities of Kenya and Uganda. This trip is a fundraiser to support those communities. To learn more about the community we are visiting and supporting, see: https://www.discoverafricanjews.org/our-work/community. Food insecurity represents the most significant challenge confronting sub-Saharan Jewish communities, with many families lacking access to basic infrastructure such as wells and water pumps. Please help us in our effort to strengthen this Jewish community.
TBA’s annual travel adventure in 2026 will be to Africa. We will spend time in Kenya and Uganda, embedding within local/indigenous Jewish communities there for the two שבתות/shabbatot that we will experience on the trip. In between, we will do local touring/exploring, including an extended wildlife safari excursion.
We are going on this trip as a learning adventure. And to have a wonderful vacation. And…we are visiting some fascinating and exceedingly under-resourced Jewish communities. The Abayudaya community in Uganda, and their sibling community in Kenya, are barely at subsistence level. Both viz. individual families, and the community itself. Therefore, we are using this wonderful trip we will experience as an opportunity to raise funds for this community. We will ask every participant to agree to fundraise a minimum of $1800 towards our effort, every dollar of which will go to these communities to help them sustain themselves, and grow.
