Our Mission

The Association of Refugee Women in Uganda (AORW-U) is a registered, women-led non-governmental organization founded by refugee women from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, and Somalia. Initially formed as a self-help group for Congolese refugees, AORW-U has grown into a prominent advocate for women's rights, economic empowerment, and resilience among refugee and host communities across Uganda. The organization addresses Gender-Based Violence (GBV), promotes agriculture-based livelihoods, and provides essential services including vocational training, entrepreneurship support, financial literacy, English language classes, scholarships for refugee girls, and food assistance ensuring access to opportunities and dignity for marginalized women and girls.
