CARE’s Lillie's Fund is a targeted spay/neuter program, subsidizing sterilization surgeries for pets owned by lower income families in Chatham County. The Global Veterinary Dermatology Education Group (GVDEG) is an independent international group of veterinary dermatologists who are committed to improving the knowledge and practice of veterinary dermatology in underserved areas around the world. The objective of the GVDEG is to enable veterinarians to recognize, diagnose and manage the most common dermatological diseases in their areas. We aim to accomplish this by offering free education through lectures, practical demonstrations, interactive discussions and the use of web-based educational sessions. Our long term goal is to identify, educate, empower and support local veterinarians with a keen interest in dermatology and willingness to lead local ongoing efforts in education and advancement of veterinary dermatology.
The Ferret Rescue & Education Society (FRES) is a non-profit, charitable organization that was started by a small group of devoted ferret owners in the Calgary area who recognized the need for a locally based rescue dedicated to ferrets. Our committed volunteers assist FRES in their goal to find permanent homes for all of the ferrets surrendered to us. They also provide shelter, basic needs, veterinary care, and if necessary, rehabilitation for all abused, unwanted, and abandoned ferrets regardless of their health status. With the rapid rise in the popularity of ferrets as pets, there is a great need for public education. While ferrets make wonderful pets, it is important that those who select them, as well as those in contact with them, have access to the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding ferrets care.
