Arkansas Paws In Prison

Arkansas Paws in Prison is committed to rehabilitating inmates and giving rescue dogs a second chance at life by preparing them to be loving, obedient, adoptable pets. The Paws in Prison program pairs inmate trainers with rescue dogs for eight to ten weeks of obedience training and socialization in preparation for adoption. Prior to graduating from the program, each dog must pass the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Ready test. Because the dogs are properly socialized and trained, their chances of adoption improve drastically, and the risk of being returned to a shelter for unruly behavior decreases significantly. Many of our program’s “graduates” have gone on to become therapy animals and service dogs, including the first water leak detection dog in North America. Paws in Prison collaborates with animal shelters and rescues throughout the state to advance its goal to reduce the number of dogs languishing in shelters and reduce the number of dogs euthanized each year in Arkansas. Since the program began in 2011, more than 2,700 dogs have been rescued, trained, and adopted by loving forever families. Additionally, Arkansas Paws in Prison strives to decrease recidivism rates by providing incarcerated individuals with the opportunity to give back to the community and acquire skills that support successful rehabilitation and re-entry into society. Over the years, Paws in Prison has continued to expand its capacity to fulfill the need for vocational training and rehabilitation programs for offenders. Inmates at five prison facilities throughout the state now have the opportunity to learn the vocational skill of dog training. Inmate trainers attend weekly professional training classes and maintain a daily journal of their dog’s progress, which improves their literacy and communication skills. In addition to employment skills, participants also gain interpersonal skills. The program teaches them responsibility, compassion, and to care for others. Many of the trainers are hired for animal-related jobs after parole. A number of released participants have dedicated their lives to saving animals and work for Paws in Prison’s partner rescues and shelters, and several have established successful careers as service dog trainers. One former inmate trainer returned to work in the prisons as a professional dog training instructor, teaching inmates in the program and serving as an example of what can be accomplished with hard work and dedication after incarceration. Arkansas Paws in Prison Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The program is supported by donations and the sale of recyclables. You can make a tax-deductible donation online or by mailing your donation to Arkansas Paws in Prison Foundation at 1302 Pike Avenue – North Little Rock, AR 72114.

Cat Care Durango

To protect the welfare and dignity of all cats in every stage of their life through TNR (trap-neuter/spay-release) programs, proper medical care-both physically and mentally- and adoption, foster and sanctuary programs for our wild and peaceful feline friends. Our highly effective programs are reducing the number of stray, abandoned, and unwanted cats in our community. TNR (trap-neuter/spay-release: Cat Care's TNR program helps control the overpopulation of feral cats and provides vaccinations to stop the spread of disease and unnecessary suffering. The TNR program also offers a place where friendly feral cats and kittens can be socialized, cared for, and introduced to potential adopters who will provide them with loving, permanent homes. Adoption: Adoptions are crucial to Cat Care Durango’s mission. Placing cats and kittens into loving and committed homes ensures they have the chance to live happy, healthy lives while opening space for us to rescue and care for more animals in need. While cats await adoption, Cat Care Durango provides full veterinary care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter services, and treatment for illness or injury. Senior & Special Needs Cat Sanctuary: Cat Care Durango serves as a sanctuary for senior cats and those with advanced medical needs. While every cat in our care is available for adoption, some may be overlooked by potential adopters due to medical conditions or terminal illnesses requiring ongoing or lifelong care. These special felines, whom we lovingly call our “Sanctuary Cats,” have a permanent place with us, where they will receive the love, comfort, and medical attention they deserve for the rest of their lives.

Humane Farming Association

The Humane Farming Association (HFA) - now over 200,000 members strong - is the nation's largest and most effective organization dedicated to the protection of farm animals. Founded in 1985, HFA has gained national recognition and respect through its hard work and its highly-visible, highly-successful campaigns.HFA's goals are: 1) to protect farm animals from cruelty; 2) to protect the public from the dangerous misuse of antibiotics, hormones, and other chemicals used on factory farms; 3) to protect the environment from the impacts of industrialized animal factories.HFA's comprehensive programs include: anti-cruelty investigations and exposs, national media and ad campaigns, direct hands-on emergency care and refuge for abused farm animals, consumer boycotts, legislation, and youth humane education. HFA's National Veal Boycott continues to be the single most successful campaign ever conducted against factory farming. Achieving an unprecedented drop of nearly 70% in the sale of drugged, anemic, and tortured baby calves, HFA's groundbreaking investigations have just resulted in the first-ever felony convictions of veal industry leaders. HFA's efforts against Bovine Growth Hormones have been pivotal in mobilizing the public against this cruel and dangerous dairy hormone. And HFA's campaigns to stop the abuse of millions of pigs, chickens, and other victims of factory farming continue to turn the tide against the abusive factory farm industry. The outstanding work of the Humane Farming Association is regularly featured on network television and nationally-broadcast radio programs such as ABC's PrimeTIME Live, Good Morning America, World News This Morning and CBS' 60 Minutes. HFA's hard-hitting expos?s have appeared in Time, Newsweek, People, U.S. News and World Report, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and dozens of other major publications across the country. As HFA makes headlines for its landmark victories and hard-hitting anti-cruelty campaigns, there is another equally meaningful aspect to our work - and that is HFA's Farm Animal Refuge. HFA's Farm Animal Refuge is the largest farm animal rescue facility in the world. Over seven square miles, HFA's Refuge offers hands-on emergency care, rehabilitation, and refuge for abused farm animals. HFA is the only national farm animal protection organization with a shelter that has never turned away farm animals seized as a result of a cruelty case.In 1991, HFA established its political and legislative arm - the Humane Farming Action Fund (HFAF). HFAF is the nation's only political lobbying organization founded exclusively to protect animals raised on farms. HFAF enacts strong and enforceable legislation to outlaw animal abuse and works to ensure that existing anti-cruelty laws are not undermined or weakened by inhumane and unethical meat industry-backed legislation. All combined, HFA's programs and activities represent the greatest hopes of those seeking to create a better world for all of earth's creatures.

Second Chance Pet Adoptions

Founded in 2001, Second Chance Pet Adoptions is a non-profit 501(c)(3) No-Kill animal rescue dedicated to the memory of all animals who were caged, hunted, beaten, tortured, starved, chained, exploited, abandoned or simply ignored. Our mission is to find a permanent, loving home for each cat and kitten in our care, and to reduce the overpopulation of cats in the community, through an aggressive trap-neuter-return program. Second Chance Pet Adoptions educates the public as to the proper care and needs of their pets, provides information on existing animal cruelty and abandonment laws, and informs the public of the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We also provide a service to the community by providing pet adoptions designed to benefit both the animal and the adopting party. We ensure the animals under our protection are taken care of in the best way possible. Our adoption process includes a veterinary health check for the animal and screening of the prospective owner, to help ensure that the pet and its new owner will be compatible. If for any reason they are not compatible, we take back the pet, who will again be offered for adoption. Second Chance Pet Adoptions is a 100% volunteer organization. We do not receive any government assistance and rely solely on donations to provide services for the animals in our care.
