THE DANCING ON THE EDGE FESTIVAL

The Dancing on the Edge Festival was launched 1988 as a project of the Firehall Theatre Society developed in response to a surge in dance activity in Vancouver and a need for presentation opportunities for dance artists from across Canada. Due to the success of the festival, in 1998 the Firehall was encouraged to create an independent body, the Dancing on the Edge Festival Society, with the support and encouragement from all three levels of funding bodies. Since that time, the Festival has opened doors and provided commission, residency, professional development and presentation support for the majority of British Columbia dance makers, and for many of Canada’s leading artists and companies, including Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Wen Wei Dance, Margie Gillis, Fortier Danse, Kidd Pivot, etc. In 2013, the Festival celebrated its 25th anniversary, a tremendous landmark for the Festival and for the celebration, presentation and health of contemporary dance in Canada.
