Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary care that addresses the root cause of illness or disease and promotes health and healing using natural therapies. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are highly educated primary care providers who integrate standard medical diagnostics with a broad range of natural therapies. A pioneer in Canadian naturopathic education, CCNM first opened its doors in 1978 (as the Ontario College of Naturopathic Medicine in Kitchener). In 1984 CCNM relocated to Toronto, where it has continued to grow, educating students from across Canada and around the world. Today, CCNM is Canada's premier institute for education and research in naturopathic medicine, offering a rigorous four-year, full-time doctor of naturopathic medicine program. CCNM is also home to the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, a dynamic naturopathic teaching clinic where senior clinicians and ND supervisors conduct more than 25,000 patient visits per year.

The FRM is the home of the famous Coleman Frog, the 42lb wonder that lived in the Killarney Lake over 100 years ago. The FRM is a gateway into the exciting history and diverse heritage of central New Brunswick where the provincial capital is located, and served as a meeting place for Aboriginals, Loyalists, Acadians, and other European settlers. HOMER WATSON HOUSE FOUNDATION

The Homer Watson House & Gallery is the homestead of Homer Watson, Canada's first noted landscape artist (1855-1936). The Gallery, constructed in 1906, is one of the oldest operating galleries in the Province of Ontario. Watson's early Victorian house was also the home of the renowned Doon School of Fine Arts during the 1950's and 60's and drew such artists as Fred Varley and Carl Schaefer. In 1955, the Homer Watson house was officially recognized by National Historic Sites and Monuments of Canada. In 1980, the house and surrounding three acre property were designated under the Ontario Heritage Act as being of architectural and historic significance. Today the Gallery operates as a thriving visual arts centre where the community is encouraged to develop, discover, and enjoy visual arts through changing exhibits, educational programs, special events and workshops. The Gallery operated on Watson's philosophy that "Art after all is for the people and not for the few".

ST ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Thunder Bay, is a designated Heritage Building of the City of Thunder Bay. The 105 year old structure has been a landmark in the community with its 14th century English Gothic design. Simpson islet grey/white sandstone was used in the construction of the building. Of special interest is the main entrance, which faces Brodie Street, and is composed of 2 Gothic arches with elaborate molds and is supported at the centre and on either side by 10 massive polished granite columns. The church bells, historic Casavant pipe organ and 16 stained glass windows add to the beauty and majestic nature of our sanctuary. The sanctuary's acoustics are outstanding & as such has been used to host many concerts from choirs to local & touring groups of various genres. It is also a place of worship and stands as a testament to the faith of a whole community of people who call St. Andrews home & long to see it restored to its original splendour.

Writers' Trust of Canada

The Writers’ Trust of Canada was founded in 1976 by Margaret Atwood, Pierre Berton, Graeme Gibson, Margaret Laurence, and David Young and our mission is to advance, nurture, and celebrate Canadian writers and writing. We strive to make Canada the best place in the world to be a professional writer, and to ensure that Canadian voices are heard. The Writers’ Trust puts more money into the hands of professional writers than any other non-profit organization or foundation in the country. With generous support from donors, we reward and celebrate the finest Canadian writers and writing with nine prestigious national literary awards; we offer scholarships to emerging writers; we support writers who contribute their brilliant work to The Walrus; we offer writers the opportunity to live and write for three months at Berton House, our writers’ retreat in Pierre Berton’s childhood home in the Yukon; and we provide emergency funding to writers in crisis through our Woodcock Fund grant program.

COLUMBUS HOUSE (PEMBROKE) INC

Columbus House was formed in 1988, after a group of local businessmen and educators became concerned with students who were having difficulties living at home, but who had no other living options. Out of these discussions, Columbus House, a residential housing program for youth, was born. Supported and sponsored, in part, by the local Knights of Columbus, Columbus House allows youth the opportunity to pursue their education while learning independent living skills in a structured, supportive and safe environment. Columbus House opened its doors to young women in 1990, and to young men in November of that same year. To better serve the diverse needs of today's youth, the Young Parent Support Program (YPSP) was introduced in 1999, and continues to offer young mothers the opportunity to complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) while their children are engaged in developmental programming on-site. Young families in rural areas are supported through outreach.

CABBAGETOWN COMMUNITY ARTS CENTRE INC

For almost thirty years the CCAC has provided children from low income inner-city homes with quality music and art instruction. During that time, we have seen literally tens of thousands of children pass through our doors in Cabbagetown. We work predominantly with families headed by single mothers who often fall below the national poverty line. Like you, these parents want the best for their children; unfortunately it’s often beyond the financial means of the family. At the risk of singing our own praises, we change the course of childrens’ lives. With the many calls on your generosity from a variety of worthy causes, why should you choose to help CCAC? Quite simply this. You are helping to provide a solid base from which we can help ourselves. We are not simply looking for a short-term handout. Your donation will help build a better, more self-sufficient future.

ONE TO ONE LITERACY SOCIETY

ONE TO ONE is a unique children’s literacy program that provides one-to-one tutoring to children in elementary schools during regular school hours. Our trained volunteer tutors work with students who are identified by their teachers as needing a boost in their literacy skills. Typically, each student spends approximately 30 minutes twice a week with a volunteer tutor. Children chosen for the program often receive little or no literacy support at home. ONE TO ONE provides these children with an opportunity to practice their reading in an environment where it is okay to take risks, make mistakes, and learn at their own pace. The ONE TO ONE program is available for free to any student in one of our program schools, and is completely funded by grants and private donations. ONE TO ONE's 300 volunteer tutors support over 800 students in Vancouver and North Vancouver. Support us and provide a child with the opportunity to develop literacy skills for life.
