Approximately 60% of the adult population in Hamilton do not have the literacy skills needed to meet the everyday demands at home, work and in the community. We help English-speaking adults to improve their basic (grade 1-grade 5) reading, writing and math skills through the work of trained, volunteer tutors. The student and tutor pair meet for approximately 4 hours per week. We also provide the option of Small Group instruction where 5-8 students learn basic skills in a class setting. Small Groups meet 9 hours per week.

Family Services of the North Shore is an accredited, not-for-profit, community-based organization. For sixty years, we have provided education, support, and counselling to heal and connect the North Shore community.The Agency serves the City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, the District of West Vancouver, as well as the Village of Lions Bay, and Bowen Island. We also lead the provincial work in the prevention of eating disorders.Our annual budget is now close to 3.7 million of which one third or 1.3 million is fundraised. We actively work with our donors, funders, community partners and corporate donors to ensure the sustainability of effective and cost-efficient programs. Our vision is a connected community where people care for one another. We annually serve close to 7400 individuals and families through a broad range of social services to children, youth, adults, couples, and families from a diverse array of cultural and economic backgrounds.

In the early years, the brain forms connections that set the stage for lifelong learning, behaviour and health. By age six, children have a solid foundation for reaching their full potential in the years ahead. Parents and caregivers have the greatest impact on how a child grows and develops in the the early years. You can make the difference!

Our vision is to broaden and deepen interest in Rudolf Steiner and his philosophy of Spiritual Science by such programs as: introduction to anthroposophy, Exploration, Foundation Studies, Connections, Parent education, and professional training in early Childhood, elementary and high school teaching certification. The Rudolf Steiner Centre Toronto was certified as an educational institution by Human Resources Development Canada in 1996. We issue certificates of course completion for all our programs.

The Philadelphia Sinfonia youth orchestras support the artistic growth of young musicians in the Delaware Valley by providing high-level ensemble experience in a supportive educational environment. We believe that the pursuit of excellence requires performers with integrity, working together toward a common goal. Thus, our mission is three-fold: to provide ensemble performance opportunities for young musicians, to achieve the highest level of artistic advancement, and to educate young people broadly to be strong citizens and leaders as well as responsible musicians. We recruit from a demographically diverse student population to provide an opportunity to anyone who musically qualifies and to enrich the experience of all members of the organization.

Founded in 1989, the Literacy Foundation is a non-profit organization whose specific mandates are: organization of fund-raising activities, awareness, support to organizations, prevention and referral. Our vision of the future is for each person to be able to acquire the ability to understand and use written information in order to improve his knowledge, enhance his potential and achieve full self-actualization. In Quebec, 16% and in Canada, 15% of the population aged 16-65 are on the lowest rung of the reading ability scale according to the International Adult Literacy and Skills Survey. Much remains to be done ... Only 2% of illiterate individuals undertake literacy training. Help us fill in the blank!

Cayo connects the people of the US and Cuba through music. Our mission is to support, educate and empower students, teachers and audiences in the US and Cuba. Our meeting ground can be as simple as one tuning A shared between strangers. Our priority is to provide equal input and impact for each side. When individuals are imbued with purpose, they are inspired to act. CAYO provides a setting where students, teachers and audiences to listen, learn and lead.

Literacy Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit charitable umbrella organization that provides a provincial forum for organizations and people to work together so that every adult has literacy and essential skills learning opportunities. We do that by raising awareness about the state of literacy in the province and the country, promoting accessible programs for all, collaborating with others who have similar interests and goals to support and celebrate learning, find solutions and make connections.

The Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) is located in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada. CKPL is an eleven branch public library system that offers a wide range of free services to the public including circulation of materials of all types, free Internet access, WIFI, ebooks and readers, information databases available 24/7, programs for children through adults, help with questions and much more. CKPL connecting communities with information and inspiration!

We offer three primary programs: Let’s Talk Science Outreach: Community-based program that connects youth and educators with outstanding STEM volunteers, including post-secondary students and industry-based professionals. Available for free across Canada, over 3,500 volunteers from 40 university and college sites engage youth in a wide variety of meaningful STEM-learning experiences, including the Let's Talk Science Challenge, a team-based competitive enrichment event for Grade 6-8 students offered at 23 sites. CurioCity: Web-based program to connect students and teachers with the STEM community, offering an interactive and reliable place for youth, ages 13-17, to explore and engage in STEM issues using technologies and relevant contexts that appeal to them. IdeaPark: Dynamic new online place for early years and Kindergarten/primary educators to access tools, resources and services that help them support young children’s development as critical thinkers and problem solvers.
