The Macaulay Child Development Centre is a multi-service agency that helps children reach their full potential in caring families and communities. Established in 1932 as a non-profit, charitable organization, Macaulay promotes the optimal development of children in partnership with their family and community. Macaulay programs share a common commitment to prevention, early intervention and inclusion of children with special needs.

Our programs and publications include: TD Canadian Children's Book Week, the largest celebration of Canadian books for young people in Canada; Best Books for Kids & Teens, our semi-annual selection guide to the best Canadian children’s books, magazines, audio & video; Canadian Children's Book News, our quarterly magazine featuring reviews of recommended books, author and illustrator interviews and profiles of publishers and bookstores; our six major book awards include the TD Canadian Children's Literature Award, the Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award, the Norma Fleck Award for Canadian Children’s Non-Fiction, the Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction for Young People, the John Spray Mystery Award and the Monica Hughes Award for Science Fiction and Fantasy; resource libraries of Canadian children's books and reference materials in Toronto, Edmonton, Halifax, Vancouver and Winnipeg; specialized reading lists and an information packed website - www.bookcentre.ca.

The ELF provides training, materials and small grants to community organizations and schools across Canada in order to assist them in the development of children's literacy initiatives. ELF-supported programs have served over 13 000 children, predominantly from First Nations, new Canadian and low-income communities. We believe that literacy is the birthright of all Canadians. ELF-supported communities often report illiteracy rates of over 90%! With our support, programs serving children and youth at risk, have dramatically increased literacy rates.

Within the suffering she and her family experienced, she found a great compassion for the children of Cambodia -- the forgotten ones, the disenfranchised ones, the ones who without help have little hope of escaping the cycle of poverty brought by decades of genocide and war. PONHEARY LY has made it her life's mission to locate and be of service to the children of the rural poor in the villages of Siem Reap Province. THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF OTTAWA is a registered non-profit charity that raises private funds to help students in need and at risk of school failure, attending schools in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Children cannot learn if their basic needs are not met. Children come to school hungry every day. Many of our students face life challenges that place them at risk of school failure. Over 25% of Ottawa's children are living in poverty. We provide funding in emergency situations, for food and clothing, or medication, when a family is in financial crisis. The Foundation is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of business, education and community leaders, and chaired by Mr. Jim Orban, Publisher of the Ottawa Citizen. Music at the Red Door enriches our neighborhood with a broad range of high quality music programs provided a no cost to attendees other than voluntary contributions, and also empowers children through musical education and performance.

Their mission is to create opportunities that bring the power of music to children, families, and adults. They are a membership-driven and financed organization. Membership is open to all who enjoy music, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the company of others who feel the same. Their programs and social events provide their members with a special connection to the Minnesota Orchestra and its music and to each other.

The Academy for Learning for Islam (ALI) is a non-profit registered charitable organization based in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. It aims at advancing religious and educational values of Islam according to the Shi'ah Ithna 'Ashari school of thought. It maintains a religious school of instruction for children, youths and adults. The Academy also provides counseling services and Islamic outreach programs to people experiencing religious and social problems.

Since 1950,the Junior League of Calgary (JLC) has been working to bridge the gap between society's needs and existing community resources. The result is a legacy of training, leadership and voluntarism that has made a difference in Calgary. Past projects include the launch of Calgary Reads, Junior Chefs, Kids Help Phone, and Volunteer Calgary. Current projects promote healthy and active living for youth. We believe that education and support for youth is critical in building self-esteem and reversing the cycle of poverty. The Teen Tote project collects gifts and hygiene items for teenagers who would otherwise be missed during the Christmas season. Kids in the Kitchen is an international education initiative to empower children to lead healthier lives through hands-on activities related to nutrition, food preparation and physical fitness. Kids in Motion and Kids in the Arts introduce preschool concepts to at-risk children using story-telling, crafts, dancing, music and games.

In operation for over sixty years in Calgary, Alliance Française offers of Calgary a variety of French educational, training and cultural programs for Francophones, those who wish to learn French or Francophiles who have a love for all things France. AFC owns Calgary's most comprehensive French language library, with a growing range of offerings including books, music and film/video. Children's programs are available as well. Alliance Française of Calgary is associated with the international Alliance Française organization based in France.
