ALMS and its members are active across Alberta in providing support to individuals, local communities, educational institutions, governments and industry that are interested in lake and watershed management. The Society organizes an annual workshop at a different Alberta lake community each fall. The workshop provides a forum to discuss water quality issues, technical aspects of lake and watershed management, and practical solutions to local problems. Each ALMS member receives our newsletter, The New Wave. ALMS is also widely recognized through its two community-based water quality sampling programs called Lakewatch and Alberta Water Quality Awareness (AWQA).

The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority is an environmental advisory and protection agency based out of Kingston, Ontario. Our jurisdiction spans more than 3,500 sq. km of land in 11 different municipalities, including Kingston, Gananoque, Brockville and Newboro. The CRCA owns more than 4000 hectares of conservation land. We purchase land to protect it from being developed, preserve natural features and wildlife habitat, provide public access to the natural environment and undertake water management projects, such as flood control. We fulfill this mission by: Providing food and other basic amenities to persons in need. Establishing, operating and maintaining Orphanages, Elementary and High Schools, and Training facilities for persons in need. Improving the quality of drinking water by constructing wells and water treatment, irrigation and sewage treatment systems. Developing and promoting public health by establishing, operating and maintaining Medical Clinics, for the purpose of educating and instructing the public on the prevention of, and curative measures for health problems.

The Friends of the Tay Watershed (FoTW) is a non-profit association, dedicated to preserving and enhancing the health of the Tay River Watershed. It was founded and obtained incorporated non-profit charitable status in 2001. The Tay is a magnificent tributary of the Rideau Canal system in eastern Ontario, covering 95 kilometers and encompassing 46 lakes and numerous streams and wetlands. The FoTW involves landowners, water users, and other interested parties in programs to improve the health of the Tay River Watershed. It works to: 1. educate the public and watershed stakeholders on the benefits of maintaining and improving wildlife habitat, recreation, and water quality and quantity in the Tay Watershed; 2. carry forward the recommendations of the Tay River Watershed Management Plan; 3. promote the coordination of water protection and improvement activities from the range of organizations involved in watershed management. The Haliburton Highlands Land Trust is a community-based, not-for-profit, non-governmental charity in Haliburton County. The Land Trust works to conserve the plants, wildlife and clean water of Haliburton County to ensure a legacy of forests, fields and wetlands, and the species they nurture.

The Stream of Dreams Murals Society is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to educating people about the importance of conserving and protecting our water resources and endeavoring to inspire behavioral change to that end. Based at the beautiful Fraser River Discovery Centre, in New Westminster, BC, it delivers its award winning eco-education program about water and watersheds and their connection to the ocean and fish habitat. The Society presents its program primarily in elementary schools in Greater Vancouver and on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, and has trained teams to deliver its trademarked Stream of Dreams eco-education and community art program in other regions of BC, in Calgary, AB and several regions of Ontario.

Established in 1992, the Bedeque Bay Environmental Management Association (BBEMA) is a not-for-profit charitable organization focusing on conserving and enhancing the environment through planning, education, partnerships and projects. BBEMA supports community action environmental initiatives that mitigate climate change, maintain water quality and improve the ecosystem biodiversity.

We support students and teachers in the K-12 school system, with curriculum-relevant education programs in topics related to energy, water, waste, forests and land use, and climate change. We provide free classroom presentations, outdoor field studies, classroom resource materials, and professional development programs for teachers.

We help children obtain an education by the paying school fees and school expenses of elementary and secondary school students through our child scholarship program. We work to keep children with their families supporting grandparents who are caring for their orphaned grandchildren. We partner with Kenyan charities that manage children’s homes (orphanages) and schools. We mitigate the effects of drought by water harvesting through the installation of gutters and tanks which collect rain water from large roofs in arid and semi-arid areas of Kenya. We foster individual self-sustainability by supporting community development projects. We strengthen the church by funding and working directly with local church groups. We help Kenyans to understand and apply universal values and principles that will allow them to succeed and overcome corruption and poverty.

The Nanaimo Search and Rescue Society (NSAR) is a registered non-profit society in British Columbia. The group was formed in 1991 and is composed entirely of volunteers. NSAR is responsible for ground and inland water search and rescue within the jurisdiction of the Nanaimo RCMP detachment. The area covered includes portions of the Regional District of Nanaimo, as well as within the City of Nanaimo.

The Human Development Foundation has been operating community-building programs in the several poverty-stricken areas of Pakistan for 10 years. HDF follows the Human Development philosophy of "helping people help themselves" HDF has mobilized and organized communities and helped them build and staff health care facilities, open and staff schools, build dams and water pumps so entire villages could have fresh, safe drinking water, build roads to join communities and create micro-credit programs that allow individuals and communities to break the cycle of poverty and have a sustainable opportunity for self-sufficiency. HDF provides a grassroots level, multidisciplinary approach to development that is increasingly being viewed as the most applicable by both academics and practitioners in the field. In each year of its existence, it has grown and has helped, at the grassroots level, more and more people. Today, over 200,000 have been direct recipients of HDF services.
