Theatre Workshop of Nantucket is a community-based theatre that promotes the unification and participation of community through theatrical performances that inform, explore, and celebrate the human spirit. To achieve this mission, TWN produces, presents, and develops programs that foster community participation of both adults and children; builds and maintains an organizational capacity and secures and maintains facilities necessary to support our programs.

HOW WE DO IT Our dedicated volunteer chorus partners with the world’s most talented, multi-disciplinary artists to create exceptional presentations that cross genres and promote deeper engagement with our audiences. We revive neglected masterpieces, energize the traditional repertoire through innovative collaborations, and commission new works on timely topics. We draw upon the rich diversity within our community to inspire us artistically and help guide us as members of our board, chorus, and staff. WHY WE DO IT (OUR VALUES) We believe that – as our founder Robert Shaw wrote in 1941 – “beautiful music is not the privilege of a few, but a necessity of us all.” We believe the human voice raised in communal song has a unique power to unite and inspire the best in all of us. The mission of the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation is to further the pioneering work of Alvin Ailey by establishing an extended cultural community which provides dance performances, training, and community programs for all people. As important as its artistic and educational mission, this performing arts community plays a social role, using the beauty and humanity of the African-American heritage and other cultures to unite people of all races, ages and backgrounds.
