SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (SUDA)

Today, most of our population growth is being accommodated at the fringes of suburban cities in a sprawling, low-density fashion. These new communities are highly consumptive of rural and agricultural lands, energy, water and material resources, and create traffic congestion. As a result, they also emit damaging amounts of toxins and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. SUDA gathers and disseminates information about sustainable city-building, undertakes practical research as funds allow, and communicates with key stakeholders about opportunities and benefits of building environmentally-responsible communities.

SURGE NARROWS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

In this remote, water-access only archipelago, which lacks many commercial and government services, the Surge Narrows Communnity Association often acts as a facilitator and initiator of projects that improve the comfort, happiness, health and safety of the community. It is a point of contact for government agencies and a disseminator of information. Despite it's status as the only registered organisation in the area, SNCA resists the imposition of any kind of governmental role, preferring to enable individuals to take responsibility for the well being and harmony of the community. By providing buildings for all kinds of activities and by fundraising to support community generated projects, SNCA gives vital support to the islands' people.

CANADIAN LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION INC. (CLI)

The Canadian Lifeboat Institution (CLI) is a marine search & rescue service, dedicated to conducting its affairs in the tradition of the world's lifeboat services. It was founded in 1981. Since that time, CLI members have participated in over 3,000 rescues, working in close cooperation with other search and rescue organizations. The Canadian Lifeboat Institution is a not-for-profit, federally registered Charity in Canada, but it receives no government funding. Instead, it relies on personal donations, corporate sponsorship and community grants to meet its commitments. All members of the CLI are volunteers and receive no financial reward for their services. In meeting its objectives, the CLI does not attempt to replace the Canadian Coast Guard or its Auxiliary, but provides vessels and trained crews, found from volunteers amongst all walks of life in the community, to assist local, provincial and national agencies to save those in peril on the waters of Canada.
