We operate the Salt Spring Island Transition House, the 24-Hour Violence & Abuse Help Line, Women's Outreach Services, Stopping the Violence Counselling for Women and Children Who Witness Abuse Counselling for Children. We also run a community-based thrift store, "Transitions", in downtown Ganges on Salt Spring Island as a fundraising program for the organisation. We work from a feminist perspective and offer non-judgmental support and information that will assist women in making their own choices.

The equality effect provides knowledge leadership and human rights education. The equality effect works to advance women’s and girls’ human rights, and promote their empowerment, through the development of equality research, strategic action plans, and the implementation of practical equality initiatives (e.g. public legal education, policy reform, judicial training, litigation, etc.) that will result in tangible change. The primary focus of the organization’s work relates to violence against women, the feminization of HIV/AIDS, and women’s property rights.
Harbour House is a shelter for women and children survivors of domestic violence We have been serving our community for over twenty-five years. These services include the provision of safe, transitional housing for women and children fleeing abuse, a twenty-four hour support/distress telephone line, public education, women’s and children’s groups (both in house and outreach),and individual counselling sessions (both in house and outreach). At Harbour House, we believe that domestic violence extends far beyond the individual family unit and has negative, long term social and economic consequences for the community as a whole. This is why it so important to end violence against women and children by stopping the cycle of abuse from continuing.
Giving Asha is a USA-based 501(c)(3) non-profit providing hope and opportunity to the women and children of Asia. Based in Kathmandu, Nepal, we work to improve the quality of life of economically and socially marginalized women and children through education and literacy, access to medical care, and family assistance.
We help women build confidence and skills so they can participate in the community. The women we serve face challenges on various fronts. Many of our clients are new Canadians. Others may have financial barriers, be starting a new life or transitioning from shelters or survival jobs, imprisonment, abusive relationships or illness. We help them prepare for work, volunteer and educational opportunities. Our programs are free to our participants. They prepare women by teaching them lifeskills such as career planning, communications skills, workplace culture and coaching them on appropriate business wear. The Walk-In-Closet program offers one-on-one consultations to women on how to dress to look and feel their professional best. The program provides new and used clothing, makeup and accessories that have been donated. The Making Changes program targets immigrant women and offers workshops including career planning, communications, job search, interview skills and how to access resources.
National Abortion Federation Canada was established to promote reproductive health among Canadian women. We serve not only physicians, but also other health care professionals who are important to the provision of abortion care including nurses, counselors, and administrators. They are members of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), the professional association of abortion providers in Canada and the U.S. Over 60% of the women who choose abortion each year in Canada are cared for by NAF members. Access to health care is guaranteed by the Canada Health Act. Abortion is considered a safe, legal, insured and funded service. Women should therefore not have to pay for abortion care in Canada, but access is variable. For example: • Since the majority of abortion care is provided in urban centres, women living in rural areas often face challenges in accessing care. “People in Transition (Alliston) Inc., “My Sister’s Place” is a not-for profit organization which provides a broad range of services designed to alleviate the consequences of violence against women and their children. “My Sister’s Place” is a 12-bed emergency shelter for women and their children who are seeking refuge from the violence in their lives. Our core services include a woman’s program, children’s program, transitional housing and support program and an outreach/legal advocacy program. All of these programs provide free and confidential support services, crisis intervention, crisis counselling, individual and group support, safety planning, referrals to community resources, advocacy around housing, legal and economic issues, and public education presentations to community partners on the issue of violence against women and children. Additionally, our Women’s Program is available to women and children seeking service on a 24 hour a day basis, 365 days per year.”
