At any given time, there are thousands of impoverished, orphaned or abandoned children fighting just to survive in the unforgiving streets and desperately poor rural regions of Honduras. Their existence is bleak. It's defined by hunger, violence, drug abuse, prostitution and exploitation. It's an existence of fear, heartache and despair. But it doesn't have to be that way. With the help of our fellow Canadians and our Honduran partner Sociedad Amigos de los Niños, Friends of Honduran Children has set out to rescue these children and give them what they urgently need - a home and a future – helping them to transform themselves from victims of poverty, abuse and crime into functioning, independent, self-reliant, contributing members of society.

Best Buddies is about creating friendshps between individuals with intellectual disabilities and students. Contact between students and individuals with an intellectual disability seldom occurs spontaneously. Creating chapters at high schools, colleges and universities across the country, Best Buddies facilitates friendships by pairing individuals in one-to-one friendships and by organizing group activities. A Best Buddies friendship helps break down barriers to inclusion and provides opportunities for share experience, laughter and support. The Best Buddies program provides opportunities for leadership experience and training for everyone involved and opens doors for its volunteers.
Founded in 1989, SAS provides an opportunity for young women to adopt a healthy lifestyle and reintegrate back into society. The SAS Program first addresses the Participants’ immediate basic needs. Homelessness, addiction, abuse and mental health are examples of current issues that can prevent an individual from leaving an unhealthy lifestyle. Immediate safe and affordable housing is provided for every Participant. One of the defining services of SAS is our onsite babysitting service for those with young children or with child allowing the Participants to attend counseling and daily program activities. The SAS Program emphasizes treatment of the whole person. We provide education in basic life skills, such as budgeting, parenting, basic academic and employment skills. SAS Program also includes recovery skills that support relapse prevention, anger management, and overall self-esteem.
