Peace Festival A yearly Peace Festival is organized in our local neighbourhood.. Community-building activities Community meals, special events, organized outings and activities draw people out of isolation and rebuild personal support networks. Community student residence Near Montreal’s four major universities, it offers lodging in a community living and peace church context. There will also be opportunities for volunteering with Maison de l'amitié programs. Community space We offer low cost rental (or free) community space to our local community for meetings or events. Pastoral Refugee Support Network This program is develops a support network for communities of faith where many of the members struggle with having been suddenly uprooted and having experienced organized violence or torture. The Christmas Bureau of Edmonton is a charity governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and administered by a small staff part of the year. It is funded solely by donations from kind people like you. We are non-denominational and accessible to all. We work with over 80 agencies to ensure needy Edmontonians have a festive meal during the holidays. More than 800 volunteers provide their time.
The Lupus Society of Alberta is a non-profit organization formed to provide education and support for lupus patients, their families and friends. Funds are raised to further lupus research, promote public awareness and provide education to the community at large. The Lupus Society of Alberta was established in August of 1972 and has the distinction of being one of the first lupus organizations organized in the world. The Centre for Community Learning & Development (CCL&D), (formerly known as East End Literacy) was founded in 1979 as a community-based literacy organization serving downtown east Toronto. CCL&D is now a training and development organization that promotes increasing individual and collective resources as a strategy for building community capacity. CCL&D engages in training and learning activities, digital storytelling, leadership development, clear language & design, and community partnerships, as strategies for responding to community-based challenges. Wings of Providence, commonly known as Wings, offers second-stage shelter and affordable housing for women with children who have experienced family violence. Wings’ second-stage shelter has 20 fully furnished, 2 or 3 bedroom apartments. Families stay at Wings for 6 months and during that time they attend programming, which involves group and individual counseling. Topics discussed in group help to foster parenting and life skills, as well as help mothers understand and better cope with family violence. In 2012, Wings officially opened its Home Next Door – an affordable housing complex which provides a safe and secure home in a healthy, supportive community, to women with children to promote continued healing and independence. Our Home Next Door has 30 fully furnished self contained units and an on-site daycare.
Mission Services of London is a Christian Social Services Agency which exists to meet the need of disadvantaged persons in our community. We provide emergency shelter, food, rehabilitative counselling and advocacy at both Rotholme Women's and Family Shelter and at the Mens' Mission and Rehabilitation Centre. We provide addictions treatment in a long term residential program and transitional housing at Quintin Warner House. Our Community Mental Health Programs address the needs of the homeless or near- homeless mentally ill, through outreach workers in the Streetscape program, Safe Haven, Crash Beds, and the Life Skills training. The Mission Store provides clothing, bedding, and household articles at low cost or free (by means of a voucher program.) The principle on which Mission Services ...operates ... is simply to love our neighbour as ourselves.
