The Edmonton Community Foundation connects passionate donors to charitable organizations delivering programs and services that enhance the quality of life in the communities in which we live, learn, work and play. The Foundation invests donor contributions in perpetuity, creating legacies that positively impact our lives in the areas of the arts and culture, health and wellness, community and social services, education and learning, recreation and the environment. Grants are distributed in a way that is flexible, creative and responsive. We respond to the wishes of our donors as well as the needs and opportunities in our community; together we develop strategic priorities towards lasting solutions.

Ecojustice is a national charitable organization dedicated to defending Canadians' right to a healthy environment. Our lawyers and scientists set legal precedents and strengthen environmental laws that protect and restore the environment, both today and for the future. We are an independent organization and 100 percent of our funding is provided by our generous donors. Standing together with thousands of dedicated supporters, Ecojustice is winning victories that make a lasting difference for our communities and our environment. We come from a variety of backgrounds, yet share one common goal: To ensure the long-term protection and health of our rich and diverse environment.

Trees for Life demontrates that when a few dedicated people work toward one common goal, something extraordinary happens. The combination of their diverse skills unleashes a force that can move mountains. We use that force to empower people in developing countries. We focus on shifting the paradigms that create and sustain the cycle of poverty. We think very long-term—a 1,000-year perspective. Our work is to find what relatively small actions by people may result in shifting the larger paradigm. We build models aimed at sparking a grassroots, people-to-people movement.Our efforts are in the areas of education, health, and environment.

Our public service is available to visitors to our library. Our computer library catalogue has over 20,000 records and materials on regulatory reform, policy, law and legal precedents, materials from environmental organizations and advocacy groups. The focus is on Ontario and Canadian issues but increasingly includes United States and international resources as well. The range of topics is wide: air pollution, biotechnology, climate change, environmental health, environmental law, environmental politics, Great Lakes, international trade and development, land use planning, northern development, pesticides, toxic substances, waste management, water quality and quantity, wetlands, wildlife and endangered species.

At Power To Be our programs are designed to impact local lives by filling the gaps in education, health and social service sectors. We work with specially trained staff, community partners and local agencies to provide award-winning inclusive nature-based experiences. The programs are designed to inspire a sense of connection, community and the limitless discovery of what is possible. Adaptive Recreation and Wilderness School participants are living with physical, cognitive, developmental or socioeconomic barriers. Power To Be helps break down these barriers by creating access to nature-based activities including sea kayaking, surfing, climbing, snowshoeing, skiing, backpacking, yoga, hiking and multi-day adventures.

The Planet in Focus Foundation supports the charitable activities of the Planet in Focus: International Environmental Film & Video Festival. Planet in Focus screens and promotes outstanding and compelling films and videos (documentaries, dramas, experimental and animation) covering a broad range of environmental themes by Canadian and International filmmakers. We aim to promote the use of film and video as catalysts for environmental awareness, discussion, and engagement on the ecological and social health of the planet. The Festival also hosts panel discussions, workshops, a school touring program and a children's program. Planet in Focus also operates a youth environmental video production program called Youth Camera Action!

A registered charity since 1992 we advocate the move towards a more whole food, plant-based diet for environmental sustainability, better health, and compassion toward animals. We also believe communities are stronger when they set a table that people from all cultures and beliefs can enjoy. Help Earthsave Canada bring educational tools into schools and workplaces and create awareness of the effects our diet has on every living creature. For the Nations Refugee Outreach provides general educational and family services that help meet the practical needs of refugees and shares with them the gospel of Jesus Christ. We serve refugees from more than 20 countries resettled in the Dallas/Fort Worth area from ages 0-87 by emphasizing education, family services and the Christian gospel message through ESL classes, literacy, tutoring, preschool, citizenship classes, Bible studies, life skills, reading programs, field trips and seminars. We also help connect refugees to food, clothing and health care. Our vision is to bring these proven programs to more and more of the area’s large refugee population.

The Bharath Abhyudaya Seva Samithi (BASS), An Indian Progresssive Service Society, is a registered non-governmental Voluntary organization established in 1978. BASS seeks to improve the livelihoods of children, youth, women and vulnerable people include sick people, -those who are at the highest risk due to challenging socio-economic conditions. BASS works to bring relief and opportunity to rural and urban communities negatively impacted by poverty. The activities of the organization seek to promote social justice, equality and empowerment to disadvantaged peoples and victims of disasters in the Guntur district. BASS facilitates many activities including: educational, economic, social, health care and emergency relief and rehabilitation services.

MissionCleanWater is a nonprofit working to bring clean water and sanitation to the most underserved communities. Our approach focuses heavily at the community level, ensuring a clean water source is developed with quality and long term growth.Many other organizations move quickly and do not collaborate with communities which is why the World Health Organization reports that 60% of all clean water projects fail within their first year. We work closely with each community to develop a solution together. Through community relationship building, training, and long-term involvement, we want to fully maximize the investment of clean water in the community and bring out its full potential.

CFCAS enhances Canada’s scientific capacity by funding the generation and dissemination of knowledge in areas of national importance and policy relevance, through focused support for excellent university-based research in climate and atmospheric sciences. CFCAS supports efforts to: Understand our climate system, high-impact weather, air quality and ocean-atmosphere interactions; Improve weather predictions; Generate skilled human resources; Provide scientific information to support federal policymaking and service delivery. CFCAS research grants indirectly promote: Job creation and the retention of skilled researchers; Economic growth and sustainable development; Technological innovation for weather and other environment industries; Weather security and human health issues.

The Bay Area Restoration Council (BARC) is at the centre of citizen efforts to restore and protect the ecosystem health of Hamilton Harbour and its watershed. A community non-profit group, BARC also functions as a watchdog organization, assessing and promoting the clean up projects for the bay. Local stakeholders and governments follow a clean up strategy, created by the community, called the Remedial Action Plan (RAP). Continued commitment to the plan is essential to achieve habitat restoration, public accessibility and improved water quality goals. Involving the community in harbour issues requires public participation and membership support. The Bay Area Restoration Council delivers school programs, guided harbour tours and lecture series.
