A global volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment locally and internationally. Soroptimist is a Global Voice for Women.

Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International of the Americas is an international organization for business and professional women who provide volunteer service to their communities. About 45,000 Soroptimists in 20 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects benefiting women and girls. Soroptimist International of the Americas is part of Soroptimist International, which comprises almost 95,000 members in about 120 countries. The name, Soroptimist, means 'best for women,' and that's what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best working to help other women to be their best. Soroptimist members belong to local clubs, which determine the focus of service to their communities. Club projects range from renovating domestic violence shelters, to providing mammograms to low-income women, to sponsoring self-esteem workshops for teenage girls. In addition, Soroptimists participate in organization-wide programs that include the Women's Opportunity Awards, Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls, the Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence, the Making a Difference for Women Award and the Violet Richardson Award. All projects seek to make life better for women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.

We accomplish this by: • Developing community partnerships and providing rewarding opportunities for our staff and volunteers. • Providing a comprehensive resource centre and meeting place, which facilitates the sharing of knowledge within the horticulture community. • Providing horticulture education. • Demonstrating responsible stewardship of our forest and wetlands through sound habitat restoration, conservation and agro forestry practices. • Developing and maintaining diverse north Pacific demonstration gardens, designed to educate visitors on good horticulture practices and to provide public enjoyment.

CORE VALUES As the voice of anglers and hunters, the OFAH will professionally represent Ontario’s anglers and hunters, their hunting and fishing rights and traditions, and their passion for hunting and fishing, and for fish and wildlife conservation. The OFAH supports, and will seek to enhance, Ontario’s rich traditions of hunting and fishing, and the quality of life they represent. The OFAH will promote, encourage, and seek to ensure the conservation of Ontario’s fish and wildlife, their habitats, and the ecosystems that support them, to ensure continuing benefits to anglers and hunters, and by extension, to all of the people in Ontario. The OFAH will encourage, conduct and lead proactive fish and wildlife management, individually and in cooperation with others, to ensure the conservation of resources, the protection and enhancement of our hunting and fishing heritage, and the provision of benefits to meet the needs of Ontarians.

The Land Conservancy of BC is modeled after the National Trust in Britain. It is a membership based Trust which protects land for natural, heritage, cultural, scenic and recreational values. Since its founding in 1997 TLC has protected over 150,000 acres on more than 300 properties throughout BC. TLC owns ranchland, forests, important salmon spawning areas, the world famous Abkhazi Garden, Wildwood EcoForestry Site, the Ross Bay Villa Heritage site and even a nursing colony for rare Townsend Bats. TLC is membership driven and has over 500 active volunteers in communities across British Columbia.

The Canadian Health and Environment Education and Research Foundation (CHEER) works to educate health professionals and citizens about environmental health hazards. Working with its sister organization, The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, CHEER has alerted Canadians to the hazards of lawn and garden pesticides and the safe, effective alternatives that now exist. It has also taught nurses and doctors how to make hospitals and medical clinics more environmentally-friendly. Finally, it has shown the public the advantages of organic agriculture.

The Lake of the Woods Water Sustainability Foundation: 1) Coordinates and provide financial support for bi-national research focused on understanding and resolving water quality problems affecting the Lake of the Woods basin. 2) Is working to develop a water quality sustainability plan that will ensure the long term viability of the Lake of the Woods basin for current and future generations. 3) Provides education about sustainability of Lake of the Woods and it water quality.
