Jazz At Lincoln Center

The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center is to entertain, enrich and expand a global community for Jazz through performance, education and advocacy. We believe Jazz is a metaphor for Democracy. Because jazz is improvisational, it celebrates personal freedom and encourages individual expression. Because jazz is swinging, it dedicates that freedom to finding and maintaining common ground with others. Because jazz is rooted in the blues, it inspires us to face adversity with persistent optimism.From our first downbeat as a summer concert series at Lincoln Center in 1987, to the fully orchestrated achievement of opening the world's first venue designed specifically for jazz in 2004, we have celebrated this music and these landmarks with an ever-growing audience of jazz fans from around the world.Representing the totality of jazz music, Jazz at Lincoln Center's mission is carried out through four elements—educational, curatorial, archival, and ceremonial—capturing, in unparalleled scope, the full spectrum of the jazz experience.In the mid-1980s, Lincoln Center, Inc. was looking to expand its programming efforts to attract new and younger audiences, and to fill its halls during the summer months when resident companies were performing elsewhere. Long-time jazz enthusiasts on the Lincoln Center campus and on the Lincoln Center Board recognized the need for America's music to be represented, and lobbied to include jazz in the organization's offerings. After four summers of successful Classical Jazz concerts, Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) became an official department of Lincoln Center in 1991. During its first year, JALC produced concerts throughout New York City, including Brooklyn and Harlem. By the second year, JALC had its own radio series on National Public Radio, and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (now known as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra) began touring, and recording and selling CDs. By its fourth year, the program reached international audiences with performances in Hong Kong and, the following year, in France, Austria, Italy, Turkey, Norway, Spain, England, Germany and Finland. In July 1996, JALC was inducted as the first new constituent of Lincoln Center since The School of American Ballet joined in 1987, laying the groundwork for the building of a performance facility designed specifically for the sound, function and feeling of jazz.“The whole space is dedicated to the feeling of swing, which is a feeling of extreme coordination," explained Jazz at Lincoln Center's Managing and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis of his vision for the new home of jazz, or the “House of Swing." “Everything is integrated: the relationship between one space and another, the relationship between the audience and the musicians, is one fluid motion, because that's how our music is." Under Marsalis's direction, JALC sought out world-renowned architect Rafael Viñoly and a team of acoustic engineers to create Frederick P. Rose Hall, the world's first performance, education and broadcast facility devoted to jazz, in New York City. As the centerpiece of a $131 million capital campaign drive, the 100,000-square-foot facility opened in fall 2004 and features three concert and performance spaces (Rose Theater, The Appel Room and Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola) engineered for the warmth and clarity of the sound of jazz.

At Fundacion Entrepreneur, we work every day to "be the social actor that leads Learning by Playing in Latin America". "We seek to develop the competencies in our children and young people, that will become the best version of themselves and develop in the 21st century" Eight years ago there were three troublesome problems that were in our heads: What would happen if all people learned to undertake and be an entrepreneur?, What would happen if we were all financially literate, balancing our well-being and money?, What if we had fewer social myths and a mayor sense of citizenship and belonging? Common problems, which are in everyone's life, but which are not all carrying burden. Thus, in 2012, the chilean company Momento Cero (Mo.0), who has spent 15 years making learning and innovating always entertaining, through the creation of various tools to carry out the Learning by Playing methodology, saw the need to generate social impact initiatives, thus giving rise to our Entrepreneur Foundation, an independent, non-profit organization. We felt in love with the challenges linked to this specific problems, because we believe they are the individual mobilizing motors of freedom and necessary to create, finance and implement dreams and projects that are a contribution to the common good. How do we put this into practice? We develop, implement and evaluate school programs that promote the use of educational board games in the classroom, focusing on students between 12 and 18 years old. We address relevant topics for current challenges: entrepreneurial talent, financial literacy, social sense and citizenship. Along with this, we co-developed the book "Playful mindset: to create, educate, undertake and innovate", where we share our know-how. Why Learn by Playing? Because if there are emotions, there is learning. And if that learning has an educational intention to provide tools to our young people, even better! We know that the Learning by Playing methodology generates emotions, fosters self-confidence, develops divergent thinking and reduces stress, which increases learning, thus developing in children and young people the skills that will allow them to become the best version of themselves in this century. We know that our challenge is not easy and we have a long way to go, but we are committed to enhancing the talent of each person, contributing to the formation of integral human beings, according to the challenges of the 21st century.

Empower International

EMPOWER INTERNATIONAL TRUST (EIT) is a New Zealand registered charity. We are also a charitable entity within Australia. We have been operating since 1990. We care for about 300 teenagers who receive 24/7 care while residing in one of our 19 safe-houses. They receive nutritious meals and support physically, emotionally, spiritually and also in terms of education. The work is all carried out in a loving family environment. EIT's basic modus operandi has always been to: Possess a default thinking that wherever possible we empower local indigenous community leaders to have as much responsibility to take on as much of the work as possible instead of using western personnel. This has meant that all of our 19 safe houses (located in Honduras, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Kolkata (India), Nepal and Bhutan) are run by indigenous house parents who are chosen by established local indigenous boards, As a western organisation, we see our mission as working to encourage indigenous folk to have the freedom to make as many decisions as possible on their own. We monitor the work, we give specialised training, lead in fund raising and we encourage them to think in terms of expansion and not simply "maintaining", We work with young people from a broad range of religious and cultural backgrounds. Many of our children come from difficult and somewhat dysfunctional family backgrounds. A number have been neglected, orphaned or even abandoned. Over our countries of operation, we can clearly see that girls are seriously at-risk (through no fault of their own) of entering the sex industry, slave labour or other forms of exploitation and unsafe employment, We are happy to go to difficult places and work amongst people from difficult backgrounds, Because of our operation style, we can be both very flexible and of course we have been able to work amongst secluded tribes/ethnic groups that western organisations would never be able to reach into, It may be that a child lives within one of our project homes for a period of several years, so we can quietly and calmly take our time to develop them by showing love and simple encouragement and assisting them to make positive life decisions, We have no desire to separate the children from their own village homes and actively encourage guardians' participation. During school holidays the children return to their families, Though we may be a faith-based not for profit, we have no interest in criticising the religions or belief system of others. We have seen a very good level of positive development amongst our young people. Some have risen to become medical doctors, professional engineers, accountants, one is an assistant university professor and another a school principal while others are human rights lawyers, community workers and still others are working in NGO organisations. Also, many have become schoolteachers. One of our young men was recently selected to study to become a surgeon at India's top ranked medical college. The young people living in the homes are normally aged between 13 - 20 years. We remain in close contact with many of our graduates who now no longer live in our homes and who instead are either attending university or polytechnic. Other graduates have now completed their tertiary studies. Now our boards in Thailand, Cambodia and Nepal are comprised of a number of our graduates in fact two of the boards are chaired by our graduates.
