The National Farmers Foundation has a board of directors made up of five persons known for their commitment to education and research for the benefit of the family farm in Canada. The directors are in sympathy with the goals, objectives, and policy of the National Farmers Union. Representatives of various sectors in the country, such as family farmers, organic product marketers, new rural development groups, churches, rural youth and women, and urban consumers supported the establishment of the organization. Many of these have identified a vacuum with respect to accessible education and plain language research to help direct the crucial ventures in rural development which will mean not only survival, but the thriving of rural communities into the twenty - first century. A new awareness of the interdependence of rural and urban communities creates a challenge to promote action-oriented education and research which will create and enhance positive rural/urban cooperation.
Inner Winnipeg faces a number of challenges. Not every family or community has access to the same economic opportunities and social supports, or even to the basics that children need to succeed. Impoverished living conditions can result in a number of other challenges like neighbourhood violence, emotional trauma, homelessness, and hunger. Children living in these environments are coping with high stress levels that can impact learning and affect how well they perform in school. Access to education is a serious issue because it affects the quality of life and prospects of children, families, and neighbourhoods. It is a root cause of many other issues including joblessness, crime and violence, poor physical and mental health, and neighbourhood decline. The Westland Foundation believes that post secondary education is critical to the future of the students we support and to the betterment of our society.
Metchosin’s coast, meadows, forest, woodlands and mountainous areas include some of Canada’s rarest species and ecosystems. Being located in the rainshadow of the Olympic Mountains has produced a mild, seasonally dry climate that favours flora and fauna that are unique in Canada. Our Garry oak woodland is one of the rarest ecosystems in Canada, featuring displays of camas and fawn lilies that draw admirers from far and wide. The remnant old growth Coastal Douglas-fir forests at Mary Hill and Rocky Point are considered globally significant. The Metchosin Foundation was started in order to preserve our rare species and the forests and meadows that they inhabit. To that end we work with landowners to ensure that the landscapes they love will be protected into the future. Facilitating and supporting conservation covenants is the main tool at our disposal to help preserve these ecosystems.

Being able to overcome, grow and develop is the essence of a good life for us. Day in, day out, we work on solutions and possibilities with future prospects and opportunities. Together we make a difference for others with our initiatives, programs and products. We ensure relevance and inclusion. One of Canada’s finest and last remaining grand estates, featuring architectural, landscape and interior designs of the 1920’s and 1930’s, Parkwood was home, from 1917-1972, to auto baron R. Samuel McLaughlin (founder of General Motors Canada)and his family. Parkwood is praised by Canada’s Historic Site and Monuments Board as “a rare surviving example of the type of estate developed in Canada during the inter-war years, and is rarer still by its essentially intact condition, furnished and run to illustrate as it was lived within.” The majestic estate that was once a private enclave experienced by a select few is now a National Historic Site, open year-round, to be enjoyed by all. The Parkwood Foundation has successfully raised $5 million to date, for conservation and preservation of this magnificent estate. Your support will help us continue to preserve this important heritage site, for th education and enjoyment of all.
Sound Bites is a brand new fundraising campaign to replace the Yukon Arts Centre theatre’s antiquated sound system. Although the existing sound system has served the theatre well over the past two decades, new technologies and YAC’s ongoing commitment to its enthusiastic audiences and talented user groups necessitates this vital upgrade. Each year 30,000 people of all ages (including some who come more than once) attend about 170 music, dance, film, theatre, multi-media, spoken word, festivals and other performing arts and cultural events at the Yukon Arts Centre, presented by 40 Yukon and Whitehorse arts organizations. Foundation volunteers have a goal to work with you – our valued community partners – to raise $90,000 towards the purchase of new state-of-the-art audio equipment. We look forward to reaching this milestone and celebrating the sweet sounds of success with you!
