Books and Bread for Kenya

Books and Bread for Kenya has been a registered non profit making charity since 2008. Our mission is to provide healthcare, promoting learning and alleviating poverty in Kenya. Books and Bread for Kenya currently support two orphanages, a rescue centre for abused and neglected women and children, three Kenyan village communities and a hospital. Together with our trusted volunteers BBK works tirelessly to improve the basic conditions and empower many individuals. Books and Bread for Kenya has built kitchens and supplied poly tunnels, seed and livestock so communities may nurture the land. Basic and emergency healthcare has been provided from child birthing equipment to limb amputation and the removal of parasites in the feet of an entire village community. Libraries have been filled with books, schools equipped with pens, pencils etc. and education paid for the poorest of children, from primary through to university graduates.

Vees Place

The charities mission is to improve the health and general well-being of our community, through health initiatives, formal and informal educational sessions, advocacy, advice and guidance sessions, peer to peer support, recreational activities etc, we aim to improve the quality of life and reduce social and economic constraints in our society. After covid and major spends on the old church building we operate from our finances were stretched to the limit and we considered closure. Due to the demand for activities and services we decided to continue as best we could. We are in the process of redecorating rooms to provide therapies, a sensory room, a dementia group and occupational therapy to address requests from numerous community residents and health groups. As our website is about the history of the charity we need an urgent update, a volunteer from John Moores University has offered to do this for us. We do not have a current newsletter but we do have an infographic about our achievement over a five year period as example of the good work carried out and the impact. We have won numerous prestigious awards to include "The Points of Light" awards from the then Prime Minister Theresa May. The ITV Good Morning Britain Team awarded the manager/founder a 'Special Recognition Award' which appeared on screen Christmas 2020. Our charity has worked with the Princes Trust and the Groundwork Trust, both excellent for the progress of young people. There is a video on YOU TUBE of our past projects, we will be continuing a lot of similar projects in the future; I am hoping to attach some files later if possible, files such as the Annual Report and the Infographic. Since deciding to remain open we have been fortunate to work in partnership with a number of groups such as MerseyCare NHS, Merseyside Youth Association, Knowsley Disability Concern, Social Prescribing via GP's, Police, Veterans, Schools and more. The charity is volunteer led. Our request is for funding to gain a project manager who will over-see all projects and will supervise a number of project facilitators.

Pan African Sanctuary Alliance

Our goal for PASA is to be an invaluable resource for primate sanctuaries throughout Africa. Recognizing the intrinsic value that wildlife sanctuaries provide as a nexus of long term commitment to enforcement of wildlife laws, animal welfare and conservation of wild primates, we will advocate for our member sanctuaries on these and other relevant issues and provide a readily accessible international communication network for these members. PASA's programs will evolve with the threats that face African primates and the needs of our members; we will continuously seek creative solutions to provide our members with the best tools to promote long term success in the fight to protect and care for Africa's primates. We will accomplish this while maintaining PASA's Culture of Trust and Caring. We will follow PASA's Code of Values which includes transparency, collaboration, fairness, competence, humility and respect both internally with our member sanctuaries and in our relationships with supporters, governments, and non-governmental organizations. Every African primate sanctuary, regardless of size, will be able to obtain quality training and access to conservation services from a membership organization that puts its members' collective interests first and foremost.

Donate4Refugees

At Donate4Refugees our vision is for every displaced person in Europe to be welcomed with humanity and respect in Europe and given the helping hand they need to find safety, peace and happiness in their new forever home. We work collaboratively to help ensure every displaced man, women and child asking for Europe's help gets the support they need to start their new life with dignity. That is, to have a place to live, enough food to eat, clothes to wear, warmth, lighting and hygiene. Along with access to essential information and education. We primarily do this by raising money that helps fund inspiring humanitarian projects delivered on-the-ground by our grassroots volunteer partners. We work together keeping people and hope alive. "Whoever you think are the most disadvantaged people in society, refugees are below that." - Trish Clowes, Donate4Refugees' Ambassador Right now, as you and I adapt to life amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, Europe's humanity to refugees has scarcely been worse. Did you know that at the UK border in northern France there's no shelter and little food or water for refugees? That rising hostility is played out through police brutality and cruel policy? Meanwhile, on the Greek mainland, evictions are making hundreds of families street homeless, living in poverty. Whilst the Greek arrival islands buckle under severe over-crowding, lack of basic hygiene and appalling food within camps sending tensions inside the camps, and right wing violence outside of them, soaring. Life for refugees in Europe's hot spots in 2020 is utterly miserable. The hope in people's eyes is disappearing, the smiles are fading... Now that you know, will you help? Within this devastating environment our volunteers are too often providing the only lifeline to refugees. Donate4Refugees uniquely brings together donations from individuals, businesses and trusts to give grants and emergency funding to our trusted grassroots partners on-the-ground. Those volunteers supporting refugee communities on Europe's front-lines. Together we're filling shamefully big gaps in aid and humanity and, without the tireless dedication of our volunteers, refugee men, women and children would be struggling to even survive. We're acting now providing very real help, human-to-human, to many of the world's most vulnerable people. We only wish we didn't have to.

Yayasan Bumi Sehat, Ds. PKR Nyuh Kuning

We operate four Community Health and Education and Childbirth Centers within Indonesia, and one in the Philippines, as well as mobile Disaster Relief Birth and Health Services. At our clinics, we offer a comprehensive range of allopathic and holistic medical care, including pre and post-natal care, breastfeeding support, infant, child and family health services, nutritional education, pre-natal yoga and gentle, loving natural birth services. By protecting pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding, we are advocating for optimal humanity, health, intelligence and consciousness. We believe that each individual is an essential societal component of peace. By caring for the smallest citizens of Earth - babies at birth - we are building peace: one mother, one child, one family at a time. Our mission is to improve the quality of life and encourage peace. We also offer a scholarship program each year for nursing and midwifery students from poor families who cannot afford training. In addition, we have a Youth Center where local teenagers study permaculture, English and computing skills to help them improve their job prospects.

The Latin Programme

The Latin Programme - Via Facilis improves English literacy in underachieving State Primary Schools through the study of Latin and English grammar. The Latin Programme is conscious that "one in six people in the UK struggle with literacy. This means their literacy is below the level expected of an eleven-year-old" (Department for Education, 2003). This underachievement in literacy is particularly evident in the case of disadvantaged children, "In 2007, only 35% of five year olds in the most deprived areas reached the expected level of attainment, compared to 51% of pupils in other areas [] This gap grows throughout school years so that by GCSE levels only 21% of disadvantaged pupils achieved 5+ A*-C GCSEs including English and Maths in 2007 compared to 49% of nonFSM pupils" (Department for Children, Schools and Families, 2009). As a result The Latin Programme is committed to finding innovative ways to help State Primary School children achieve a better performance in literacy and improve their life prospects. We concentrate on the link between literacy levels and future prospects because individuals with good literacy skills "are more likely to have higher self-esteem, better health, better jobs and higher wages than those with poor literacy skills." (National Literacy Trust)

Karuna-Shechen

With the goal of helping under-served communities in India, Nepal, and Tibet receive the vital services they need, Karuna-Shechen was founded in 2000 by Matthieu Ricard (www.matthieuricard.org), renown TED speaker, author, and humanitarian. We strive to reduce inequalities and work toward a fairer and more compassionate world. We trust that communities can be lifted out of poverty, that change is possible, and that the well-being of every individual, regardless of race, gender, class, or caste, is essential. We believe that building on local strengths and knowledge is the most efficient way to respond to the specific needs and aspirations of our beneficiaries. Rooted in the ideal of "compassion in action", we serve others with joy and determination by cultivating altruism in our hearts and actions. We provide vulnerable and disadvantaged populations access to health care, education and vocational training, clean water, solar electricity, and other sustainable solutions that offer options to find a livelihood and a better life. We work with a grassroots network of local partners, and give special attention to the education and empowerment of girls and women. Karuna-Shechen's name expresses its mission while paying homage to its roots: Karuna means "compassion" in Sanskrit, and Shechen is the name of a major monastery in Tibet.

EducAid Sierra Leone

Our mission is to promote and provide high-quality, holistic education to the underprivileged young people of Sierra Leone. We believe that the education of young women and men is essential to: unlock human potential, overcome poverty, improve wellbeing, build democracy, and that it is the cornerstone of stable development. For the last 25 years EducAid has been working to restore and strengthen education during and in the aftermath of Sierra Leone's civil war (1991-2002). During the conflict, education was an early casualty with many teachers fleeing the country and thousands of children being denied access to education. The country is still struggling to rebuild schools, train teachers and reach vulnerable girls and boys who are yet to see the inside of a classroom. We believe in the power of education to eliminate poverty and the challenges standing in the way of a democratic, dignified and globally-engaged Sierra Leone. EducAid provides free, high quality education to some of the most vulnerable and underprivileged children in Sierra Leone. EducAid operates 7 free schools, serving 1,200 children (1 Primary, 4 Junior Secondary and 2 Senior Secondary). The effectiveness of EducAid's innovative, student-centred approach to education is demonstrated by the fact that, despite many of our students coming from turbulent backgrounds, they regularly achieve 85% pass rates in all national exams. EducAid also trains teachers at over 100 partner schools as part of our Quality Enhancement Programme (QEP) working closely with communities and local education officials to raise the standard of education for children across the Port Loko district and beyond. Furthermore, EducAid run a tertiary-level degree course with the University of Makeni. EducAid's success stems from its grassroots and Sierra Leonean-driven approach. Of our 120 staff, only 3 are UK based with only 3 expats in Sierra Leone. Most EducAid staff are former students, knowing first hand the vulnerability faced by children in Sierra Leone and the power of education to change this, they inform our work each day. EducAid has spent decades developing relationships and earning the trust of communities by working alongside them. This is evidenced by communities giving EducAid land for schools, attending school meetings, community elders working with EducAid to keep girls in school, and EducAid's work as a trusted, stable presence during Ebola. EducAid was one of the few organisations that stayed on the ground, converting schools to care centres and delivering remote learning via radio broadcasts and moped-delivered USB sticks. EducAid also opened doors to children, many of whom are girls, who had lost their families to Ebola, and more recently to the devastating mudslides. EducAid's programs and innovations work because they come from the staff, students and communities they serve.
