The Teesside Charity

The Teesside Charity was established in March 2011 to provide social and economic opportunities that would not otherwise have existed in the area. Formerly the Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation, the charity's key function is to financially support community groups and charities based within Teesside, which promote social wellbeing and provide support to those who find themselves at a disadvantage in the society they live in. These include but are not exclusively the homeless, those recovering from an addiction, the long-term unemployed, those living in poverty or living with a disability and employment schemes. The Teesside Charity helps those on the margins of society be involved in society and not excluded from opportunities. Teesside is a deprived area of the UK. It has higher crime rates, more pupils eligible for free school meals and higher unemployment than the national average. However, it also has great resilience and motivation to excel in areas.

The Failte Centre

The Failte Centre takes its name from "Failte," the Irish word for "welcome." Failte (pronounced FAHL-chuh) emphasises our core approach: we welcome all individuals regardless of age, gender, background, nationality, political orientation or religion. Our mission at The Failte Centre is to provide both individualised learning opportunities as well as mental health & psychosocial support (MHPSS) services in a welcoming and caring environment. We refer to those that come to Failte as individuals, rather than beneficiaries or vulnerable people. This philosophy is reflected in how we treat every person that comes through our door: as individuals who deserve dignified, tailored responses to their specific concerns and needs. Furthermore, the values of empathy, respect and inclusivity are incorporated into the services we provide at Failte.

The Underdog Project

The Underdog Project aims to transforms the lives of at-risk youth in Cape Town, South Africa, by pairing them with shelter dogs in a unique program that builds empathy, leadership, and emotional intelligence. Through weekly training sessions, youth learn to care for and communicate with the dogs, improving their resilience and employability. Simultaneously, the dogs benefit from the training and love, increasing their chances of adoption. Together, they foster growth and compassion in their communities. Challenge: Youth in Cape Town's underserved communities face barriers like poverty, violence, and unemployment, with limited access to safe spaces or life-skill development opportunities. Many struggle with trauma, low self-esteem, and a lack of positive role models. At the same time, shelter dogs experience neglect and limited chances of adoption. This dual problem impacts the youth's ability to thrive and the dogs' opportunities for a better life, creating a cycle of disconnection and loss. Solution: The Underdog Project addresses these challenges by pairing at-risk youth with shelter dogs in a supportive, therapeutic program. Youth learn critical life skills like empathy, responsibility, and leadership by training and caring for the dogs. The program fosters emotional growth in the youth and prepares the dogs for adoption by teaching them positive behaviors. Together, youth and dogs build bonds that enable healing, growth, and a stronger sense of purpose for both. Long-Term Impact: This project creates a ripple effect of change. Youth develop resilience, employability skills, and leadership qualities that enable them to inspire positive change in their communities. Graduates often mentor their peers, spreading lessons of empathy and non-violence. Shelter dogs benefit from training and care, increasing their adoption chances and reducing shelter overcrowding. Over time, the program contributes to building more compassionate communities where both humans and animals thrive.

The Greenpop Foundation

OUR MISSION We're on a mission to drive tangible environmental restoration and inspire collective action for a thriving planet. Our work is diverse. We provide technical and financial support for reforestation and urban greening projects. We craft creative eco-education curriculums and awareness campaigns. We run engaging nature-based events and experiences. From getting our hands dirty running local projects to consulting for global organisations, we turn ideas into impact. Greenpop was founded in 2010 and has since worked across Sub-Saharan Africa and empowered thousands of people around the world to get active (not anxious) about the future of our planet. Optimistic Environmentalism - Our Guiding Philosophy: At Greenpop, we believe in tackling environmental challenges with a mindset of hope, creativity, and tangible impact. Our work is deeply rooted in the powerful theoretical framework of Optimistic Environmentalism. This philosophy isn't just an idea; it guides every project, every partnership, and every decision we make, shaping how we contribute to a thriving planet. We interpret this framework through four primary stances: Pro-Nature We champion the conservation and restoration of nature because it holds inherent value and is absolutely essential for a habitable planet. Our projects are designed to heal and enhance ecosystems, recognising nature's vital role in our collective well-being and the balance of life on Earth. Pro-People We are committed to ensuring equality of access to nature and its benefits for all people, both today and for future generations. Creating a just world means prioritising communities, empowering diverse voices, and ensuring environmental solutions genuinely uplift and benefit everyone, especially marginalised groups. Pro-Innovation We embrace creativity, new technology, and innovative design as crucial tools for solving complex environmental challenges. We constantly seek smarter, more effective ways to make a lasting positive impact, fostering a culture of continuous learning, adaptation, and bold thinking. Pro-Action We believe that swift, meaningful environmental action is essential, not just in policy or grand initiatives, but in every sphere - personal, economic, and legislative. We activate individuals and communities to become active participants, turning concern into tangible positive change and inspiring widespread joyful engagement. These four stances form the bedrock of Greenpop's approach, demonstrating our belief that a sustainable future is not only possible but achievable through an empowered, connected, and proactive humanity. It's the philosophy that fuels our mission to drive tangible environmental restoration and inspire collective action for a thriving planet.
