Children, particularly in difficult life situations, need a constant companion, which they can confide in and who supports them. This is what "PaSch" (mentees for pupils) stands up for. What is that project about? The mentoring-project "PaSch" is part of the community center "NachbarschaftsEtage - Fabrik Osloer Str. e.V." and arranges the matching of an adult volunteer with a child in need in the neighborhood. We try to build up relationships between mentor and mentee for at least one year, but usually they develop a long-standing friendship. PaSch is a rather small mentoring-project. At the moment, we count 17 so-called "Tandems" (mentor and mentee). Mentors are committed adult volunteers, who want to support the educational opportunities of the pre- and elementary school students in the neighborhood and spend time with and attention to the children. Mentor and mentee meet once a week to engage in joint recreational activities to get to know the city, visiting cultural and sportive attractions as well as they do homework, read, write and practice German. But the best and utmost important thing for the mentees is to have a person, a mentor by his side to talk to, whom to trust and to have fun with. To allow as many of these voluntary activities, we reimburse the expenses, for example the entrance to the Zoo or a museum.
The Friends of the Pterocarpus Forest, also known as the Amigos del Bosque de Pterocarpus (incorporated as PHA Pterocarpus Forest, Inc.) are a group of citizens committed to the conservation and maintenance of the 50.18-acre Pterocarpus Officinalis* forest at Palmas del Mar. The mission of the Friends is to ensure that this rare Forest ecosystem remains accessible -- in perpetuity -- to the people of Puerto Rico and visitors to the island for passive recreation, environmental education and research. To this end, the Friends seek funds and other resources for educational and public benefit projects that promote awareness of and knowledge about this unique ecosystem, as well as funds with which to maintain and enhance for the benefit of the public, the Forest's website and presence on social media; its interpretative signage; and the 3/4-mile elevated boardwalk, rest areas, observation tower, visitors' center, and other facilities. The Friends, in collaboration with the Palmas Homeowners' Association, the Puerto Rico Conservation Trust, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and other committed parties began the restoration of the forest in 2010. Our efforts made it possible, in less than 5 years, to turn a devastated and moribund environment that had suffered decades of neglect (particularly since Hurricane Georges in 1998) into a lush and vibrant ecosystem and a unique ecotourism destination. *The Pterocarpus Officinalis is known as the Swamp Bloodwood tree in English. In Puerto Rico it is known as Palo de Pollo, or Chicken tree, because of the shape of its large aerial roots, which resemble chicken feet.

At TITI FOUNDATION, we believe that every community, no matter how affected by conflict or hardship, has the potential to lead its own transformation. Our mission is to empower people who have long been marginalized or oppressed to take charge of their futures. We're here to provide the tools, knowledge, and support they need to build lasting change for themselves, their families, and their communities. Through our work, we focus on sustainable peace, prosperity, and dignity, ensuring that everyone especially those most in need has a voice and an opportunity to thrive. What We Care About 1. Food Security and Livelihoods For many families in South Sudan, putting food on the table is a constant struggle. At TITI FOUNDATION, we believe in turning that struggle into self-reliance. We work with communities to help them grow their own food, providing seeds, tools, and training to build stronger, more resilient food systems. Our goal is to empower families to feed themselves and create a future where hunger is not an everyday fear. We also ensure that everyone, especially women and youth, have a seat at the table when it comes to farming and livelihood decisions, making sure no one is left behind. 2. Education for All Education is the key to a brighter future, and we're passionate about making it accessible to every child, no matter where they come from. We focus on providing opportunities for children especially and girls, who have been denied an education because of conflict or poverty. But we don't stop there. We also invest in adult education and vocational training, helping parents and community leaders gain new skills that empower them to build better lives for themselves and their families. We want to break the cycle of poverty, one lesson at a time. 3. Climate Resilience and Sustainability In South Sudan, the environment is a force of both beauty and destruction. With the challenges of flooding, drought, and land degradation, we've seen firsthand how climate change can tear families apart. But we also know that communities have the strength to fight back. Our agroforestry projects are designed to help communities restore the land, plant trees that prevent flooding and erosion, and grow drought-resistant crops. By teaching sustainable farming practices, we ensure that people can not only survive climate challenges but thrive despite them. 4. Health and Nutrition Good health is something many of us take for granted, but for countless families in South Sudan, it's a daily struggle. We're working to change that by improving access to healthcare, promoting better nutrition, and tackling preventable diseases. We ensure that women and children who are often the most vulnerable have the support and resources they need to live healthier lives. Our focus is on prevention and education, helping people make informed choices that improve their health today and in the future. 5. Empowering Women and Advancing Gender Equity We know that when women thrive, entire communities thrive. That's why TITI FOUNDATION is committed to empowering women, especially in the most difficult of circumstances. From leadership training to economic empowerment programs, we are helping women take charge of their futures and lead change in their communities. But our work isn't just about women, it's about building a more equal society where everyone, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to contribute and succeed. 6. Promoting Peace and Social Cohesion South Sudan has known its fair share of conflict, and we understand that lasting peace can only be built when communities work together. We engage with local leaders, youth, and families to foster dialogue, reduce tensions, and find common ground. By promoting peacebuilding from the ground up, we help people heal, rebuild trust, and work collaboratively toward a future free from violence. Our goal is to create communities where everyone feels safe, valued, and connected to each other. Our Commitment to Inclusion, Protection, and Accountability At TITI FOUNDATION, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We're committed to making sure that no one is left out, whether due to gender, disability, age, or any other factor. We listen to the people we serve, ensuring their voices are heard and respected every step of the way. We also understand the importance of protection and safeguarding. Our programs are designed with the highest standards of safety and care, ensuring that every person especially the most vulnerable can participate without fear of harm. We take our responsibility seriously, always striving for transparency and accountability in how we manage resources and implement programs. Our community engagement is all about building trust and partnerships. We actively involve community members in decision-making, ensuring that solutions are relevant and driven by local needs. We also have systems in place to map resources, identify gaps, and refer people to the right services, because we know that the best way to solve problems is by working together. Building a Future Together At TITI FOUNDATION, we're not just about providing aid, we're about creating lasting change that is driven by the people we serve. We believe in the strength of communities to overcome adversity, and we are here to support that journey. By ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate, to be heard, and to lead, we're helping build a future where every person can live with dignity, security, and hope.
EMPOWER INTERNATIONAL TRUST (EIT) is a New Zealand registered charity. We are also a charitable entity within Australia. We have been operating since 1990. We care for about 300 teenagers who receive 24/7 care while residing in one of our 19 safe-houses. They receive nutritious meals and support physically, emotionally, spiritually and also in terms of education. The work is all carried out in a loving family environment. EIT's basic modus operandi has always been to: Possess a default thinking that wherever possible we empower local indigenous community leaders to have as much responsibility to take on as much of the work as possible instead of using western personnel. This has meant that all of our 19 safe houses (located in Honduras, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Kolkata (India), Nepal and Bhutan) are run by indigenous house parents who are chosen by established local indigenous boards, As a western organisation, we see our mission as working to encourage indigenous folk to have the freedom to make as many decisions as possible on their own. We monitor the work, we give specialised training, lead in fund raising and we encourage them to think in terms of expansion and not simply "maintaining", We work with young people from a broad range of religious and cultural backgrounds. Many of our children come from difficult and somewhat dysfunctional family backgrounds. A number have been neglected, orphaned or even abandoned. Over our countries of operation, we can clearly see that girls are seriously at-risk (through no fault of their own) of entering the sex industry, slave labour or other forms of exploitation and unsafe employment, We are happy to go to difficult places and work amongst people from difficult backgrounds, Because of our operation style, we can be both very flexible and of course we have been able to work amongst secluded tribes/ethnic groups that western organisations would never be able to reach into, It may be that a child lives within one of our project homes for a period of several years, so we can quietly and calmly take our time to develop them by showing love and simple encouragement and assisting them to make positive life decisions, We have no desire to separate the children from their own village homes and actively encourage guardians' participation. During school holidays the children return to their families, Though we may be a faith-based not for profit, we have no interest in criticising the religions or belief system of others. We have seen a very good level of positive development amongst our young people. Some have risen to become medical doctors, professional engineers, accountants, one is an assistant university professor and another a school principal while others are human rights lawyers, community workers and still others are working in NGO organisations. Also, many have become schoolteachers. One of our young men was recently selected to study to become a surgeon at India's top ranked medical college. The young people living in the homes are normally aged between 13 - 20 years. We remain in close contact with many of our graduates who now no longer live in our homes and who instead are either attending university or polytechnic. Other graduates have now completed their tertiary studies. Now our boards in Thailand, Cambodia and Nepal are comprised of a number of our graduates in fact two of the boards are chaired by our graduates.
