Step Up

Step Up is a registered, community-based non-profit organization in Malawi committed to improving the health, dignity, and inclusion of children and youths with disabilities. Our mission is to ensure that every child, regardless of their physical or developmental condition, has the opportunity to live a full, independent, and joyful life. Malawi faces a severe shortage of rehabilitation services, with fewer than 40 public physiotherapy clinics serving over 20 million people. This shortage leaves countless children with disabilities without access to essential support. Founded in 2019 and formally registered in 2021, Step Up was created in response to this urgent gap in care. We focus especially on reaching children in low-income, high-need communities like Ndirande Township in Blantyre, where public services are extremely limited. Step Up delivers core community-based rehabilitation (CBR) services that include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, caregiver training, psychosocial support, and inclusive early childhood development. We run a free physiotherapy and rehabilitation center in Ndirande, currently serving over 40 children and youths with disabilities. Our team includes volunteer physiotherapists, an occupational therapist, and a social worker. All of us share a commitment to working closely with families and caregivers - because we believe that sustainable impact starts at the community level. But our mission goes beyond therapy. We are passionate about advocacy, inclusion, and rights. Our work seeks to break the stigma surrounding disability and to build a society that not only supports but embraces diversity. We raise awareness about disability rights, promote access to education, and empower parents - especially mothers of children with disabilities - with knowledge, confidence, and tools to support their children. In the long term, Step Up is working to create a network of free rehabilitation centers in underserved rural and urban areas across Malawi. Our vision is to be a national model of inclusive, grassroots healthcare - ensuring that no child with a disability is left behind due to poverty, geography, or stigma. At its core, Step Up's mission is about giving children with disabilities the chance to live and enjoy life like any other child. We are building a world where their potential is not only recognized but fully supported - where inclusion is not a favor, but a right.

Karuna Deutschland e.V.

Karuna Deutschland is committed towards ending caste-based discrimination, dedicating efforts for poverty-alleviation, and ensuring equality in India and Nepal. Our mission is to serve individuals and families of the poorest communities in India and Nepal. The women and children as well as people from lower cast backgrounds come under the most vulnerable population in India and Nepal. The former "untouchable" castes are still suffering from social exclusion and violence and also form the largest chunk of 'ultra-poor' in these countries. It is extremely difficult for them to access healthcare, education, housing and a dignified livelihood. Dalit women and girls particularly are subjected to gender-based violence and exclusion. Although caste-based discrimination has no legal premises, the stigma attached to the lower castes in India and Nepal hinder their dignified participation in all spheres of life. They are pushed further behind by a variety of forces such as existing discrimination, inequality, poverty, illiteracy etc. Therefore, we endeavour to remove the root causes of discrimination, exclusion and poverty. We seek to run our projects and activities based on the principle of inclusion, justice, diversity and equality in order to drive a positive as well as holistic change at the community level. The foundation of our work lies in engendering a dignified life for the people; helping them build a better future for themselves as well as empowering them to take their destiny into their own hands. To elicit lasting solutions to the problems we intend to address, our approach is based upon self-help, self-determination and self-reliance at the community level. The principle of 'leaving no one behind' as mentioned in the Sustainable development goals is enshrined in our core values. Changes often happen at the local level. Creative and innovative solutions are pertinent to reach our goals. Our activities are thus built upon a wealth of local skills and knowledge. We seek to understand the vulnerabilities, strengths and needs of our target groups. Evidence based approach rooted in in-depth analysis, research of ground needs and realities is extremely important for us to promote accountability and responsibility. The four pillars of Karuna Deutschland's work are made of Education, Health, Dignified Livelihoods and Gender Equality. These four pillars are the key focus areas of the work carried out by Karuna Deutschland in India and Nepal. More information about Karuna Deutschland's activities can be found on our website.

Fundacion Oceanografic

MISSION VISION VALUES The Fundacion Oceanografic has its main offices at the Oceanografic itself. The marine centre is the institution that provides the infrastructures, personnel and the species to conduct scientific research, and conservation and awareness raising projects on the importance of protecting marine biodiversity. However, the work of the Fundacion Oceanografic extends beyond the borders of the aquarium, operating in many regions of the planet, from the Mediterranean Sea to the freezing waters of Antarctica. Connect society to the marine world and promote the conservation of biodiversity. Be an engine for social transformation that contributes to protecting the oceans. Commitment to animal well-being Environmental, social and economic sustainability Collaboration Passion Commitment Equality Hospitality Since it opened in 2003, it has been envisioned as a homage to the planet's main seas and oceans, and their biodiversity. From the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to the Mediterranean Sea, to the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans, and the wetland ecosystems. The Oceanografic is much more than just an aquarium, as it is also a research and conservation centre committed to protecting marine life and to imparting environmental education. Actions carried out through the Fundacion Oceanografic. Through educational programmes, and conservation and research projects, the Oceanografic and its Foundation work tirelessly to raise the awareness of its nearly two million annual visitors on the importance of oceans and incorporating sustainable practices to protect them. Its objective is to provide knowledge, undertake direct actions favouring conservation, and inform and raise awareness of society as a whole to ensure the protection of species and their habitat. To this end, the Foundation is upheld by three independent pillars, but which are all interrelated: research, conservation and education-dissemination. Through these three pillars, it currently implements both scientific and conservation activities, as well as programmes to raise the awareness of society, enabling the academic and social worlds to join forces to conserve and protect nature. The management and activity of the Oceanografic and its Foundation have the absolute priority of complying with the highest standards of animal well-being of the living beings under their care, and of the individuals who are part of their research and conservation programmes. Under the motto 'The Sea in Your Hands', the Oceanografic's mission is to educate and inform the greatest number of people possible about the biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems through enriching learning experiences, which are also employed as a tool to raise awareness to encourage respect towards nature. The foundation of the aquarium's activity is to care for our animal family, prioritising their well-being and sustainable management practices. Along with the Fundacion Oceanografic, its raison d'etre is the preservation of our natural heritage, which is brought to life through joint work dedicated to: research, the execution of direct conservation actions, and the dissemination of knowledge, with the aim of adding influencers among society as a whole who promote and encourage the protection of the ocean and its inhabitants. The Oceanografic is not only one of the main Spanish and international tourist destinations, but it also works hard to become a world-renowned research and conservation centre for species. This commitment to protection is clear from the second visitors enter the Oceanografic. Through educational presentations, experiences and awareness raising activities, it wants to involve the public to create awareness and change behaviours towards the sea environment and its inhabitants. The Oceanografic is certified by several globally recognised organisations and is the hub for meetings and congresses of renowned international institutions that work for animal well-being. Further, since 2022 the Oceanografic has been part of the IUCN Spanish Committee as an observer member, taking part in the conservationist strategy of the IUCN in the regions of Europe, Latin America, the Mediterranean and North Africa. This committee coordinates the meeting and debate between diverse organisations involved in conserving biodiversity in Spain, which include NGOs, public administrations, and scientific institutions. The path of the Fundacion Oceanografic is centred on the important role of aquariums as hubs of knowledge, education and conservation. The Oceanografic works to become established as a driving force for new strategies dedicated to creating opportunities and solutions for the protection of the ocean and its inhabitants, and providing its visitors with a unique and enriching experience in knowledge and emotional inspiration. Committed aquariums The Oceanografic and its Foundation as speakers for the oceans How do we do this? 01 Creating knowledge through research These actions translate into a transfer of knowledge to society to create influencers who can help to safeguard natural heritage. 02 Implementing species conservation and ecosystem restoration projects 03 Promoting educational programmes and collaborating with a wide range of organisations to strengthen environmental awareness Scientific research of the marine environment is crucial for understanding and protecting our environment. The goal of scientific research is to conserve aquatic ecosystems, centring both on the species the Oceanografic houses and wild species and ecosystems, with a special emphasis on those classified under any threatened or endangered category that requires greater knowledge for their recovery and protection. Research programmes: 1. Physiology of Marine Vertebrates Studying the adaptations of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems of pulmonate (with lungs) marine vertebrates that let them dive to extreme depths for extended immersion periods. 2. Marine Health Evaluating the causes of mortality and states of health of the wild populations of different marine species in the Mediterranean through the Beaching Network of the Comunitat Valenciana, made up of the Government of Valencia's Regional Ministry of Environment, Water, Infrastructures and Territory, the Universitat de Valencia and the Fundacion Oceanografic. 3. Conservation based research The application of methodologies that enables the exploration of remote ecosystems, monitoring the populations, and compiling information on their behaviour, health status, and physiology of species in the natural environment. 4. Animal Well-being Nourishing and advancing in the Oceanografic's animal well-being strategy and developing innovative tools that allow for monitoring their well-being in nature. 5. Biodiversity and Society Evaluating the positive impact produced by visiting the Oceanografic and participating in educational activities. Conservation programmes: 1. Marine Animal Recovery Centre (ARCA del Mar) Caring for sick or injured marine animals represents one of the main direct-action programmes. The goal is to rescue and recover species and strengthen visitors' connection to them through visits, workshops and courses with the recovering animals that will later be released into the sea. The recovery centre primarily attends to marine animals such as cetaceans, sharks, rays and sea turtles, although other species like coral and seahorses are also included within the recovery programme. 2. Reintroduction and reinforcement Controlled breeding seeks to increase both the number of individuals in declining populations and the survival of new generations after hatching, keeping the babies during their initial stages of life and reintroducing them once they have grown to a size that favours their survival in the wild. This programme centres its efforts on species of populations that are extremely vulnerable, and also contributes knowledge on the development of species during their earliest stages of life. 3. Controlled breeding of local endangered species. Strengthening the wild populations that are extremely vulnerable through the breeding and/or maintenance of the babies during their first months of life to ensure their survival and reintroduce them into the wild environment. 4. Surveillance, monitoring and restoration The different ecosystem and particular areas of interest are evaluated to establish their conservation status to be able to apply the measures required to restore their original balance. 5. Training of professionals and knowledge transmission Knowledge is shared nationally with entities such as the Ministry of Ecological Transition and internationally, collaborating closely with conservation teams in countries such as Pakistan, Colombia, India, and Thailand. Additionally, collaboration is carried out in the creation of stranding networks and recovery centers in places like the Galapagos Islands and Cabo Verde, offering advice and logistical support to strengthen conservation programs. 6. Sustainability The Oceanografic is moving towards sustainability through new programs for breeding species in controlled environments to preserve the future of its biological collections. 7. Generation of a discussion and knowledge forum The main objective is to position the Oceanografic as a driver of change, growth, and expansion of marine conservation actions to facilitate decision-making that leads to a more sustainable marine future. Secours Catholique - Caritas France

Our purpose is to reduce poverty, bring hope and solidarity to poor communities or individuals in France and worldwide. We bring assistance to families, children and young people but also to the most vulnerable (homelesses, migrants, prisoners etc.). We fight against isolation, help them to find employement and we ensure their social reintegration. We provide emergency responses but also long term support, development aid and we work on the causes of poverty. The action of Secours Catholique finds all its meaning in a global vision of poverty which aims at restoring the human person's dignity and is part and parcel of sustainable development. To do so, six key principles guide this action, both in France and abroad: Promoting the place and words of people living in situations of poverty Making each person a main player of their own development Joining forces with people living in situations of poverty Acting for the development of the human person in all its aspects Acting on the causes of poverty and exclusion Arousing solidarity The actions of Secours Catholique are implemented by a network of local teams of volunteers integrated into the diocesan delegations and supported by the volunteers and employees of the national headquarters. On an international level, Secours Catholique acts in cooperation with its partners of the Caritas Internationalis network. Key figures of Secours Catholique: 100 diocesan or departmental delegations 4,000 local teams 65,000 volunteers 974 employees 2,174 reception centres 3 centres : Cite Saint-Pierre in Lourdes, Maison d'Abraham in Jerusalem, Cedre in Paris 18 housing centres managed by the Association des Cites of Secours Catholique 162 Caritas Internationalis partners 600,000 donors Every year Secours Catholique encounters almost 700,000 situations of poverty and receives 1.6 million people (860,000 adults and 740,000 children). This daily mission led in the field by the local teams and delegations, with the support of national headquarters, pursues three major objectives which aim at exceeding the distribution action and limited aid: Receiving to reply to the primary needs (supplying food and/or health care aid, proposing accommodation, establishing an exchange and a fraternal dialogue, etc) Supporting to restore social ties (bringing together people in difficulty with an aim to reinsertion, encouraging personal initiatives and collective projects, establishing a mutual support helper-receiver of help relationship, etc) Developing to strengthen solidarity (proposing long lasting solutions, establishing a follow-up over the long term, encouraging collective actions carried out by people in difficulty etc.)

EcoSwell

EcoSwell's mission is "To support the development of vulnerable communities in a sustainable way by implementing the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals". Our vision is A Future in Which People and Nature can Thrive in Unison. EcoSwell's strategy focuses on four key areas to implement this: - Positively impacting local natural environments - Positively impacting local communities - Developing sustainability leaders of the future - Building and developing a successful organisation to support the strategy EcoSwell's Volunteer Internship programme is central to the model, operating to drive the creation and implementation of sustainability projects, whilst transforming the Volunteer Interns into agents of change. The Volunteer Internship programme offers opportunities in six different areas: Renewable Energy, Reforestation and Conservation, NGO Management, Research, Public Health and Water and Sanitation. Since 2013, we have directly impacted the lives of over 5,000 people and indirected impacted 24,000 people in Lobitos, Talara, Piedritas and other surrounding villages. We are based in Lobitos, a small town in the Piura Region of Northern Peru. Lobitos, along with Peidritas and other towns where we work, have poor access to services, with frequent energy supply interruptions, very limited availability of clean water and non existent or unmaintained sewage systems that often leak, leading to open sewage pools. Some families have no access to these services at all. There is severe degradation of the dry forest ecosystem, which impacts farming and availability of local food supplies. We run an EcoHouse, where our volunteer interns stay, and our office is based. The location is not an accident. The four founders and directors are lifelong friends who came to Lobitos on a surfing trip in 2013. Loving the surf, but also seeing the poverty and lack of services in the town, they decided to help, and gave up jobs in the private sector to set up EcoSwell. Since then, the Volunteer Intern programme has been established and many projects have been achieved. More detail is set out in the Impact Report which is attached. During COVID, we have been working in partnership with local companies and our Volunteer Interns to deliver food parcels and medical supplies to those most in need. EcoSwell is now keen to expand its impact and is developing a number of projects which align with its strategy which will require funding to make them viable. Working together with Global Giving will enable EcoSwell to reach even more people in this area, and beyond - to deliver its Mission and get closer to its Vision of a Future in Which People and Nature can Thrive in Unison.

Vision Du Monde - World Vision

Created in 2002, Vision du Monde is a French humanitarian organization, belonging to World Vision international partnership, which aims at helping the most vulnerable children. Thanks to its Christian DNA and driven by stewardship and human centred values, our NGO is dedicated to tackle the causes of poverty and injustice. We help the most vulnerable children to experience fullness of life, by growing, learning and achieving their dreams in a caring and secured environment. Vision du Monde works with the world's most vulnerable people in the most remote or unstable areas of the world. It serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender. Our staff of 25+ deals mainly with global relief, development and advocacy. We pursue this mission through integrated, holistic commitment, working closely with children, families, communities, local authorities. We make sure that each one of them are interviewed and committed from design to fulfilment in our development programmes. Empowered step by step during the ten to fifteen years of a programme, we empower them to set their own goals, settle autonomy and pass on skills and knowledge in a sustainable and community-based outlook. Vision du Monde runs 17 development programmes in 12 countries across 4 continents. It benefits from the 70 years of experience of World Vision, first child sponsorship NGO and first Clean water humanitarian provider in the world, operating in 99 countries with offices in 85 of them. Our mission encompasses, in a global and sustainable development approach, 6 key sectors across clean water, sanitation and hygiene; food security; health; education; child protection and economic development to enable families transform relationships, build resilience and secure source of revenues. World Vision recently launched a new global strategy called Our Promise 2030, contributing to reach Sustainable Development Goals. Focusing energy and resources on increasingly fragile contexts and hard-to-reach areas, the organization strengthens his advocacy against violence, exploitation and human rights violations. Vision du Monde is dedicated more than ever to reach the most vulnerable children in the world, in difficult areas, relying on the expertise and cultural understanding of local teams, 97 % of them originating from the country. Alliances with other NGOs such as Red cross, Cares, Coordination sud or public organization such as EU or World food programme or International Labour Organization, make our action more efficient.
