The Temiskaming Foundation was formed in 1994 in New Liskeard, Ontario. A group of businessmen learned how small communities in the United States were prospering through the work of their own community foundations. They reasoned that if other communities could benefit through the work of their community foundations why not start one in the Tri-Town. A local foundation would allow Tri Town residents to donate to the community with the assurance that funds would be directed where they were most needed. By 2002 there were 33 funds with a total amount exceeding $1,000,000. In 2001 these same funds provided over $42,000 to be given out in grants within the community. Established funds range from those that benefit many graduating high school students, the elderly, local arts and culture activities, New Liskeard Public School, the Temiskaming Music Festival, Temiskaming Art Gallery, local museums. Undesignated funds benefit worthy causes across many sectors of the community.

Personal philanthropy is grounded in the vision, values and deeply-held beliefs of individual donors. Aqueduct is cause neutral and operates personal foundations, or donor advised funds. Your foundation supports the charities you identify. 2. Smart planning. Aqueduct specializes in exceptional gifts – those rare gifts from assets that require financial and estate planning. We have unrivalled experience with customized, tax-wise plans, and gifts of complex assets. These are not everyday donations. 3. Philanthropic flexibility. Aqueduct is a bridge to other charities. We provide flexibility in giving and structuring legacies backed by a deep knowledge of charities.
According to the World Health Organization, Haiti is the most water-impoverished country on the face of the Earth. They have water, it is just not safe to drink it! They are also the most economically impoverished country in the western hemisphere. They are our neighbours! We are working in Haiti through Clean Water for Haiti Foundation. We are employing Haitians to build and install bio-sand water filters for Haitians in their homes. These filters are very durable and extremely effective in filtering out all biological pathogens, producing safe, clean water from even the most contaminated sources. One bio-sand filter can produce enough clean water everyday to supply the needs of even large families. In Haiti, families can commonly be 8-12 people, sometimes more, and most of them are children. And children are always the ones most affected by water-borne illnesses. Water-borne illness is the second largest cause of death in Haiti and the #1 cause of death in children.
