Young people are an integral part of the dairy industry. They need to be recognized, inspired, and challenged to make the decisions that will affect their future. Each new generation inherits a responsibility for its own culture, history and heritage. The Trustees of the Fund are committed to the development of programs and events that educate, encourage and assist the young people who are the future of our industry.

WHAT WE DO: Western Sky protects critical watersheds in our region. We conserve vital habitats and provide managed public access for recreation and education. We also work with other agencies and organizations to further protect and enhance natural areas. We champion the conservation of environmentally sensitive lands that support the health of our watersheds.

While primary education is “free” in Kenya, secondary school is NOT; therefore, most students living in Mathare Slum cannot afford to go to high school. Once out of school, many of these children are forced to contribute to their family’s income; very often, out of desperation and in order to survive, they become victims of early marriage, child labour, crime, prostitution, drug and alcohol abuse and trafficking. Members of the Mathare community agree that the only way to stop this destructive cycle is by giving these kids a chance to go to a secondary boarding school, outside of Nairobi, in an environment more conducive to learning and away from the dangers of the slum. Prospective scholarship recipients are students living in Mathare who have attended private, government, or non-formal primary school in the slum and who have completed Standard 8 with the minimum required score for high school in their final exams, they are selected by our Kenyan partners working there.

Infrastructure projects will be chosen from applications received from East African communities and monitored by a committee of volunteer CanAssist trustees. Communities will be invited to submit application for funding based on their needs and be responsible for regular reporting during and on completion of the adopted project. Our work supports all members of a community rather than focusing on individuals or programmes. ( i.e. We build classrooms rather than giving school fees for a selected child. We provide clinic equipment, not funds for salaries or programmes at a hospital.)

Our core activities are to: •Seek and accept donations of land for conservation purposes conservation easement agreements of money, life estates, bequests and other forms of planned giving trade lands that may be sold to raise funds for conservation purposes • Acquire fee-simple interest in strategic sites by purchase of land, easements, or part purchase/gift (split-receipt) • Seek community support as the source of volunteers for board and stewards, and for funds and land Our purpose is to: •conserve, protect and restore natural areas of ecological significance •receive and maintain a fund or funds to secure and manage land and support education and operations •advance environmentally sound stewardship among landowners in the area •increase public understanding of natural areas conservation in the region •encourage and conduct research for conservation and stewardship of natural area systems •develop a strong and effective public image

Founded in 2002, The Alliance for Florida’s National Parks is the official philanthropic partner for Florida’s four national parks: Everglades, Biscayne, and Dry Tortugas National Parks, as well as Big Cypress National Preserve. Our organization strives to instill in all people an appreciation of Florida’s public lands and natural resources for what they are – the key to the sustainability and prosperity of the state. Through five focused pillars of support – education, exploration, preservation & protection, restoration, and community engagement – The Alliance’s work enriches the park experience and creates deeper connections between diverse communities and the nature that abounds in their “backyards.”
