FRIENDS OF THE CANADIAN MUSEUM FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

Opening in 2014, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will take you on a journey of inspiration unlike anything you’ve experienced before. From the moment you enter through its massive stone roots, to the time you emerge in its light-filled Tower of Hope, you will be moved by the power of human rights. Canada’s newest national museum rises from the Prairie earth in Winnipeg at The Forks, where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet on Treaty One land at a doorstep of the historical location of Métis occupation and Louis Riel’s provisional government, the Museum sits on land that has been a meeting place for over six thousand years. The only museum in the world solely devoted to human rights awareness and education, it stands as a beacon for visitors from around the globe. Ramps of glowing alabaster criss-cross galleries designed to challenge, motivate and uplift. Multi-sensory exhibits explore human rights concepts with an international scope, but through a uniquely Canadian lens.

The Kosovar Organization for Talent and Education TOKA

Our mission is to accelerate social change in Kosovo by investing in its youth. We want to achieve that by offering (1) non-formal education and (2) service learning programs, which help young people become equipped and motivated to become agents of positive social change. Our programs are divided in two main pillars: 1. Youth education and development - that focuses on personal and leadership development, social skills, civic education and environmental awareness. 2. Youth community service learning - that aim to incentivize and encourage youth to serve their community with their new knowledge, confidence, and skills gained during TOKA programs. In all that we do, we have a special focus in youth from disadvantaged communities, and provide opportunities to those who struggle to reach their full potential due to their socio-economic circumstances to be empowered. Our vision is an empowered and skilled Kosovar youth, who are the leaders of change tomorrow.

FOR THE LOVE OF CHILDREN SOCIETY OF ALBERTA

In a world that has enough food, medicine and technology, it is sad to see children still living in poverty, abuse and neglect. That is why Ashid K. Bahl founded the Society, to show people that we can make a difference by helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Locally, we have helped with specialized medical treatments, equipment and medicine not covered by our health care system and not accessible due to financial constraints. Special needs children have gained access to specialized walkers, van and porch lifts, communication devices, food, clothing, playgrounds, and the Annual Santa’s Express. Internationally, we have helped with water wells, educational supplies, toys, and have been able to build & support several orphanages and schools. 90% of our funding comes in the form of private and corporate donations. Our Society is 99% volunteer based, which keeps our administrative costs low and hence that money raised can be best spent helping children.
