Inner Winnipeg faces a number of challenges. Not every family or community has access to the same economic opportunities and social supports, or even to the basics that children need to succeed. Impoverished living conditions can result in a number of other challenges like neighbourhood violence, emotional trauma, homelessness, and hunger. Children living in these environments are coping with high stress levels that can impact learning and affect how well they perform in school. Access to education is a serious issue because it affects the quality of life and prospects of children, families, and neighbourhoods. It is a root cause of many other issues including joblessness, crime and violence, poor physical and mental health, and neighbourhood decline. The Westland Foundation believes that post secondary education is critical to the future of the students we support and to the betterment of our society.

Metchosin’s coast, meadows, forest, woodlands and mountainous areas include some of Canada’s rarest species and ecosystems. Being located in the rainshadow of the Olympic Mountains has produced a mild, seasonally dry climate that favours flora and fauna that are unique in Canada. Our Garry oak woodland is one of the rarest ecosystems in Canada, featuring displays of camas and fawn lilies that draw admirers from far and wide. The remnant old growth Coastal Douglas-fir forests at Mary Hill and Rocky Point are considered globally significant. The Metchosin Foundation was started in order to preserve our rare species and the forests and meadows that they inhabit. To that end we work with landowners to ensure that the landscapes they love will be protected into the future. Facilitating and supporting conservation covenants is the main tool at our disposal to help preserve these ecosystems.

INSPIRE!africa is providing an opportunity for Canadians to make a profound difference in the lives of others by giving some of what we have, whether it is our time, money or skills. Our focus is on supporting community-based initiatives in areas where help is most needed and where it will make the most difference in moving communities out of poverty and into self-sufficiency. Education is an underlying theme as education is a powerful tool for creating a world where anything is possible. Current Projects Include: Rwanda Multi Learning Centre - Providing, English skills, computer training and employment readiness skills for Rwanda youth Livestock and Housing for widows Counselling support for University students Business training and micro financing for young entrepreneurs Sewing machines as means for building economic sustainability

Global Friends is Canadian charitable organization run entirely by volunteers. We inspire and are inspired by passion, compassion, action and impact. Global Friends is dedicated to helping connect and empower youth around the world. Our intent is not to set up models of dependency but to provide the resources and introductions for mutually beneficial partnerships that can lead to self-sustainability.  Our goals are to facilitate empowerment and encourage strategic partnerships so people thrive as individuals and collaborators.   We believe children are the future.  Their courage and ingenuity inspires us. We strive to nurture their potential to become independent, contributing members of their home neighbourhoods as well as valued members of the global community by providing resources to meet basic needs, funding meaningful education, and fostering environments where dreams can become reality.

One of Canada’s finest and last remaining grand estates, featuring architectural, landscape and interior designs of the 1920’s and 1930’s, Parkwood was home, from 1917-1972, to auto baron R. Samuel McLaughlin (founder of General Motors Canada)and his family. Parkwood is praised by Canada’s Historic Site and Monuments Board as “a rare surviving example of the type of estate developed in Canada during the inter-war years, and is rarer still by its essentially intact condition, furnished and run to illustrate as it was lived within.” The majestic estate that was once a private enclave experienced by a select few is now a National Historic Site, open year-round, to be enjoyed by all. The Parkwood Foundation has successfully raised $5 million to date, for conservation and preservation of this magnificent estate. Your support will help us continue to preserve this important heritage site, for th education and enjoyment of all.

With learning as its primary focus, the Limestone Learning Foundation raises funds from individual donors, businesses & corporations, service clubs, granting organizations, special events, memorial gifts, legacy gifts (bequests, life insurance), gifts of stocks, etc. Teachers submit applications twice per year for grants to support creative enhanced learning projects which will help make learning come alive for their students. Funding is provided for materials/supplies, minor equipment, specialized reading/math/art supplies etc. for these projects but funding is not provided for regular education expenses such as teacher salaries, regular textbooks/library books, capital improvements, renovations, transportaion costs, etc. - in short, things that your taxes should pay for through the regular School Board budget. To date, more than $1.1 million has been provided to over 460 enhanced learning projects at schools and education centres throughout the Limestone district.

The Children's Radio Foundation (CRF) uses radio training and broadcast to create opportunities for youth dialogue, participation, leadership, and active citizenship. Through giving youth the tools and skills to produce radio, young people are mobilized to engage in productive dialogue about the issues they face, and work together to improve their lives and communities. With 74 youth radio projects across six African countries, CRF works with radio stations and CBOs to create local platforms for discussion, information sharing, social engagement, and action. Our reporters take on issues that resonate with youth in their community, including but not limited to children's rights, sexual reproductive health and rights, power dynamics in teenage relationships, gender norms and stereotypes, HIV and AIDS-related issues, climate change, and the environment. Speaking in local languages and in a youth-friendly style, they interview community members, host debates, and bring out local perspectives. Their reporting projects, broadcasts, and outreach activities are geared to generate discussion about issues facing youth.

Ryan’s Well grew from the commitment of one boy, Ryan Hreljac, who learned of the great need for clean water in his 1st grade class. With the support of friends, family and the community, Ryan raised enough money to build his first well at Angolo Primary School in Uganda in 1999. With your help, we can change the startling statistics presented by the global water and sanitation crisis. Since 2001, we have helped build over 700 wells and 900 latrines, bringing safe water and sanitation to over 750,000 people. Ryan’s story is compelling and empowers people of all ages – youth in particular – to take action and effect positive change in the world. We educate on the importance of clean water and of volunteering through speaking appearances, social media and our educational resources.
