CPFQ Palestinian Child Sponsorship Program

The CPFQ Child Sponsorship Program is designed to build bridges between the Canadian community and Palestinian children living under occupation or in refugee camps. Children enrolled in our program live under conditions of extreme poverty and unemployment. Many of them live in densely populated refugee camps. A suitable infrastructure is absent, seriously threatening the physical and mental health of residents. Many children suffer from serious health problems and disabilities. Due to financial hardship, many have to leave school at a very young age to help support their families. The severe restrictions on employment and movement make the future of these children very bleak. In addition to providing much needed financial assistance, the program helps maintain stable and rewarding relationships between each child and their sponsor. This simple message of hope can offset some of the effects of the chaotic and insecure conditions in which they live.

Committee for Human Rights in Latin America

HISTORY The Committee for Human Rights in Latin America (CDHAL) was founded in 1976, following the coups d'état in Argentina and Chile, known for their strong repression and human rights violations, by four pastors and priests of Christian churches in Montreal who, within their respective faith, had a function in relation to international problems. The CDHAL owes its birth to two concerns: first, a concern of Christians to educate and inform the Church and the Quebec population in relation to situations of political repression and human rights violations in Latin America; on the other hand, a desire to establish genuine solidarity among the churches there and those here. Initially, members of CDHAL belonged to a religious affiliation. However, for over 20 years, the composition of CDHAL, as well as his work is totally free of any religious affiliation. CDHAL is also known as the Christian Committee for Human Rights in Latin America (CCDHAL).

FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES OF FRONTENAC, LENNOX AND ADDINGTON

While our primary day to day responsibilities are focused on providing services to children and families who are, for any number of reasons, experiencing some form of crisis in their lives that is adversely affecting care giving capacity or child well being, we also recognize the value of preventive services as a means of reducing risk of harm. We believe that communities that pay particular attention to supporting its child population are also helping to build strong families. Additionally, Family and Children's Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington provides a variety of services to our community. Included in these are a program to provide children in need with back to school supplies, a Christmas Tree of Hope, food and gifts for the holiday celebrations, winter coats and outerwear, funds for extracurricular activities and summer camps, post-seconadry bursaries for our youth in care and emergency funds as needed.
