The Edmonton Community Foundation connects passionate donors to charitable organizations delivering programs and services that enhance the quality of life in the communities in which we live, learn, work and play. The Foundation invests donor contributions in perpetuity, creating legacies that positively impact our lives in the areas of the arts and culture, health and wellness, community and social services, education and learning, recreation and the environment. Grants are distributed in a way that is flexible, creative and responsive. We respond to the wishes of our donors as well as the needs and opportunities in our community; together we develop strategic priorities towards lasting solutions.

Ecojustice is a national charitable organization dedicated to defending Canadians' right to a healthy environment. Our lawyers and scientists set legal precedents and strengthen environmental laws that protect and restore the environment, both today and for the future. We are an independent organization and 100 percent of our funding is provided by our generous donors. Standing together with thousands of dedicated supporters, Ecojustice is winning victories that make a lasting difference for our communities and our environment. We come from a variety of backgrounds, yet share one common goal: To ensure the long-term protection and health of our rich and diverse environment.

OFT actively protects farmland by working directly with landowners who have a desire to see their farms permanently protected for agriculture. We offer both landowners and community groups tools, such as farmland conservation easements, that can be used to protect individual properties of value to them. OFT also assists in raising awareness of the impacts of farmland loss, the need for greater farmland preservation and the importance of land stewardship. We provide ongoing volunteer and learning opportunities and encourage collaboration amongst diverse stakeholders, including farmers, local food groups, land use planners, health advocates and government.

We help install and monitor barrier fencing and culverts to reduce road mortality of amphibians in coastal British Columbia. We monitor how well these mitigation efforts work to improve habitat connectivity. We also help protect wetlands from habitat destruction, pollution, invasive species, and disease. We share information and promote stewardship of wetland habitats through public slideshows, workshops, school programs and by providing scientific advice to land owners and local planning departments. We highlight the connection between productive wetland habitat, water quality and human health in our presentations.

CWAF works with field partners on the ground to facilitate and deliver programs with a clear result driven focus. We execute hands on educational training which includes health and hygiene, clean water management, income generation, agriculture, nutrition, medical care and treatment. Our purpose is to create knowledge and understanding with an outcome resulting in a healthier educated childhood and therefore a more promising future. CWAF's goal is to promote a healthy childhood by providing basic healthcare, and improving social and economic outcomes in this region. Since 1998 we have partnered with groups in Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand.

Because whales and dolphins play a critical ecological role, our mission is to ensure whale and dolphin populations survive and thrive as key contributors to the health of our shared planet. Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) is the leading global charity dedicated to the conservation and protection of whales and dolphins. Our vision of a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free is not a noble gesture, but a necessary goal for a healthy planet on which humans and wildlife can survive and thrive. We defend these remarkable creatures against the many threats they face through campaigns, lobbying, advising governments, conservation projects, field research and rescue.

Our mission is to search out and correct problems causing the deterioration of safe, decent, and affordable housing; and the decline in homeownership. Our mission can be accomplished by the implementation of the following goals, objectives, and others: Provide safe, decent, and affordable housing opportunities for low and moderate-income homebuyers; Encourage citizen participation in fighting crime; Promote enforcement of the City's Housing codes to insure the welfare, health, and safety of the community; Provide recreational and open green space; Promote improvements to the neighborhood's infrastructure (streets and sidewalks). Trees for Life demontrates that when a few dedicated people work toward one common goal, something extraordinary happens. The combination of their diverse skills unleashes a force that can move mountains. We use that force to empower people in developing countries. We focus on shifting the paradigms that create and sustain the cycle of poverty. We think very long-term—a 1,000-year perspective. Our work is to find what relatively small actions by people may result in shifting the larger paradigm. We build models aimed at sparking a grassroots, people-to-people movement.Our efforts are in the areas of education, health, and environment.

Our Mission: Transforming global expectations of health through water and energy. We’ve all heard about green energy and protecting our planet’s natural resources for the better part of five decades. Ecosystems in crisis make headline news almost every day. The environmental movement has changed laws and raised awareness about the crumbling infrastructure in developed countries around the world. No one should go without access to fresh, potable water or without access to basic utilities. WaveWell is moving from green to blue energy alongside our partners to provide water and energy security across the globe.

Since 1997, the Kasiisi Project has aided education in and around Kibale National Park in rural western Uganda, East Africa. Founded initially as a link between the research-based Kibale Chimpanzee Project and the local community, the Kasiisi Project now works with several research groups in and around the park to target critical issues for the survival of the forest and support of the local population. We support early childhood education, promote conservation and health education, provide daily school lunches, train teachers, encourage literacy through libraries and computer usage, fund secondary school and college scholarships, and address the special needs of girls.

Oceanites is the only NGO championing science-based conservation for the 53 signatory countries of the Antarctic Treaty system and international awareness of climate change through the lens of Antarctic penguins. Our institutional memory, scientific expertise, and unique ability to translate complicated science into easily digested take-home messages uniquely position us to positively shape public awareness of climate change. The message Oceanites and its principals take forward is that our future depends on whether we, like penguins, will adapt and still have a decent home, food to eat, and good health, and continue to produce children for generations to come.
