At Safetynet Children & Youth Charities, we believe to break the cycles of poverty, families and children must have the basics. For that reason we have a clothing bank, and non-perishable food bank. Our clothing bank carries clothing for infants, children, youth and adults, including business suits for men our woman who are re-entering the work force and need proper attire for employment interviews. We also have on hand non-perishable foods, toiletries, diapers, formula, dishes and other of the day to day necessities. Safetynet also believes in the value of education, and continuing education in breaking the cycles of poverty. We provide free of cost one to one academic tutoring for children and youth, who are struggling in school. With that tutoring we mentor children and youth in the value of an education. Safetynet is pleased to announce its new musical tutoring. Volunteers are now teaching children, who have a interest or aptitude in music, piano, and guitar free of charge.
The Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society has been formed to purchase Island Timberlands forest land holdings immediately adjacent to Carrington Bay Park on Cortes Island, British Columbia, Canada. These forest lands will be held in trust for all the children of Cortes Island, in perpetuity. They will offer educational, recreational, cultural and spiritual value for all our children. They will provide the opportunity for our youth to embrace and practise stewardship of forest lands and watersheds. Parcel Identification The parcels of land that have been identified for purchase (shown below) are: NW ¼ S38, NE ¼ S38, NW ¼ S39, NE ¼ S39 and portion of SW ¼ S39. These lands border the southern shores of Carrington Lagoon and share their northern boundary with Carrington Bay Park, providing critical connectivity at the landscape level for Carrington Bay and Carrington Lagoon.
Around the world, modern and industrialized farming practices are destroying the environment—and, at the same time, failing to provide reliable income and nourishment for the farmers we all depend on to survive. At Trees for the Future (TREES), we recognize that unsustainable land use is the root cause of our most pressing challenges. We confront these challenges by serving the people at the heart of our global food systems: farmers and their families. As a global leader in agroforestry training for over 30 years, TREES provides hands-on, immersive education, skill building, and support, encouraging farmers to work with nature, not against it. Our signature methodology, the Forest Garden Approach, helps farmers transform their land with thousands of fast-growing, ecologically appropriate trees and dozens of other crops, creating new possibilities for themselves and their communities. By embracing sustainable land practices, farmers are reclaiming their agency, breaking the cycles of climate change and generational poverty, and rebuilding our food systems from the ground up.
