The mission of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) is to eradicate mesothelioma as a life-ending disease. Malignant mesothelioma is a rare cancer of the linings of the chest or abdomen. Asbestos exposure is the only known cause. The Meso Foundation solicits and rigorously reviews applications, and then awards significant grants, for research on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of mesothelioma. Through its web site and literature, its direct communications, and annual Symposium the Foundation provides patients, family members and physicians with hope, encouragement, and information. The Meso Foundation employs a full-time mesothelioma nurse practitioner to help patients navigate their treatments. In addition, the Foundation works to enhance awareness of this disease and to encourage federal funding for research.
The mission of the Foundation is to provide research funding that aims to find the cause and the cure for aggressive brain tumors found in children and those similar tumors found in adults. In addition to research, the Foundation will support the care and comfort of those children inflicted with life-threatening illness, including but not limited to hospice-type services designed to fit the needs of pediatric patients and their families. The Foundation will also contribute to other programs that honor JR Schoen’s memory and enrich the lives of children and their families.
Established in 1998, The Eye Cancer Foundation is an educational and supportive resource for eye cancer patients, their families, and physicians. Our mission is two-fold: one part focused on multi-center research of new diagnostic treatments for eye cancer research, the other focused on providing much needed, world-wide patient support services. Our mission is to create a world-class resource for patients and their families diagnosed with ocular tumors, radiation macular degeneration, and related ophthalmic conditions. We want to help you, your children and families around the world. The Society of Gynecologic Oncology’s (SGO) Foundation for Women’s Cancer is dedicated to increasing public awareness of gynecologic cancer risk awareness, prevention, early detection and optimal treatment. Founded by SGO in 1991, the Foundation for Women’s Cancer is a nonprofit organization that also provides funding for gynecologic cancer research and training, as well as educational programs and resources.
The Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation was established by an international group of physicians and researchers to provide an ongoing exchange of information relating to MDS. Until the Foundation was set up, no formal working group had been devoted to MDS. Since its inception, we have conducted 14 international symposia. A major Foundation effort is our international information network. This network provides patients with referrals to Centers of Excellence, contact names for available clinical trials, sharing of new research and treatment options between physicians, and extension of educational support to physicians, nurses, pharmacists and patients.
