Despite significant reductions across the nation, tobacco use is still the number one cause of preventable death in the United States, killing more than 400,000 people every year. Since being established in 1999, the American Legacy Foundation (Legacy) has developed a comprehensive understanding of the tobacco crisis and the many issues that surround it. Legacy is the nation's largest and most effective independent public health charity dedicated to tobacco use prevention and smoking cessation. Our mission is to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. By giving young people the facts and information they need to reject tobacco and adult smokers the tools they need to quit and stay quit, Legacy is helping people live longer, healthier lives. Legacy employs community intervention and population-based public education strategies to reach current and potential tobacco users, customizing our approach to recognize, respect and address cultural differences.

The Canadian Medical Foundation (CMF) was founded in 1987 by the Canadian Medical Association. We are the only national foundation in Canada focused solely on supporting physicians; we understand that, in order to improve health care for all Canadians, it is vital to support the physicians who deliver it. The CMF raises, invests and distributes funds via programs that are designed to improve health care for all Canadians. The CMF is unique in that, thanks to an annual operating grant from MD Physician Services, 100 per cent of all donations go directly to support our programs — programs that were developed by Canadian physicians, for physicians. The Fresh Outlook Foundation (FOF) envisions a future in which people of all ages and from all sectors communicate and collaborate to make our communities more socially, culturally, environmentally, and economically sustainable. This is possible only when people talk with one another about important community issues, challenges, and opportunities. To that end, the Fresh Outlook Foundation’s passion is “building sustainABLE communities through conversations that inspire positive change.” FOF creates opportunities for those conversations to unfold at events such as the Building SustainAble Communities conference, REEL CHANGE SustainAbility Film Fest, ECO-BLAST Kids’ Camp & Concert, Thompson-Okanagan Climate Action Exchange, Breakfast of Champions, and Women 4 SustainAbility.

Trillium Vision Foundation works to restore sight for people with corneal blindness in low- and middle-income countries by organizing philanthropic surgical outreach trips, providing donated corneal tissue and hands-on surgical care, and training the next generation of corneal surgeons so local systems can continue care.

Our mission is to prevent vision loss from glaucoma by investing in innovative research, education, and support with the ultimate goal of finding a cure. Founded in 1978 in San Francisco, the glaucoma research foundation was created to encourage innovative research to find better ways to care for people with glaucoma — the leading cause of preventable blindness.

Myhre Syndrome Foundation is a patient advocacy organization dedicated to providing hope and improving the lives of those impacted by Myhre syndrome. We foster collaboration among all relevant stakeholders to build a strong, global community in order to advance research, as well as support, educate and advocate for those impacted by Myhre syndrome.

The Cooley's Anemia Foundation (CAF) was founded in 1954 by dedicated parents of afflicted children, many of whom remain involved as members of the Foundation's governing body. At CAF's inception, children with thalassemia were confined to hospital care and barely survived their first decade of life. CAF's legislative and research efforts helped pave the way for improved quality of life and longer life expectancy. CAF is dedicated to serving people afflicted with various forms of thalassemia, most notably the major form of this genetic blood disorder, Cooley's anemia/thalassemia major. Our mission is advancing the treatment and cure for this fatal blood disorder, enhancing the quality of life of patients and educating the medical profession, trait carriers, and the public about Cooley's anemia/thalassemia major.

The mission of the Foundation is the maintaining of a six bed hospice inpatient facility The facility has the capacity to provide approximately 1,460 to 2,190 patient days of hospice care annually. Assuming an average stay of 35 days, the facility would have the resources to accommodate 42 to 63 patients per annum at 100 percent of capacity.

The Room 217 Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation and registered Canadian charity dedicated to caring for the whole person with music. Programs include: * therapeutic music products: Room 217 CDs & Companion DVDs * Music Care Concerts, Educational Presentations and Music Care Conference * two research projects are currently underway within the healthcare sector

Our programs provide children and adolescents who live with diabetes each and every day with the survival tools they need to achieve success in all areas of their lives and to maintain good health in the years to come. With our help, these children can grow to adulthood with greater awareness of the importance of proper management of their diabetes, greater confidence and self-esteem and the ability to live as healthy and productive adults. Empowering Youth in Transition to Persevere and Thrive Diabetes Hope Foundation provides financial assistance, encouragement and support at crucial points of transition in the lives of these children. Working closely with medical and health professionals specializing in youth and diabetes across Ontario, Diabetes Hope Foundation continues to respond to the changing needs of these youth by providing programs and support when and where they need it most. .

The Hepatitis B Foundation is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure and improving the quality of life for those affected by hepatitis B worldwide. Our commitment includes funding focused research, promoting disease awareness, supporting immunization and treatment initiatives, and serving as the primary source of information for patients and their families, the medical and scientific community, and the general public.

The Saskatchewan Nurses Foundation (SNF) is a registered charity that provides bursaries to eligible Registered Nurses who are pursuing continuing nursing education at the baccalaureate, masters or doctoral level or in clinical nursing courses of at least 15 days in length. After graduation, SNF bursary recipients must work in the province for one year for every $1000.00 received.
