The Betel Home Foundation was founded by a small group of Icelandic Lutheran Women who "dreamed a dream". Through their efforts the first Betel Home opened its doors to nine residents on March 1, 1915 in rented quarters at 354 William Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Later in 1915 the "Home" was moved to permanent quarters in Gimli where over the years it expanded until it housed 95 residents. In 1990, a new 80-bed facility opened on this site. It was realized that there was a need for a second home thus in 1966 a new Home was built in Selkirk and was expanded upon in 1970. Currently Selkirk is "Home"to 91 residents. As a charity, Canadian MedicAlert Foundation is committed to protecting families in financial need through the Member Assistance program and providing education and awareness programs for first responders and healthcare professionals. The No Child Without program is an exciting new school based program that provides MedicAlert protection to children from ages 4 to 14. We are endorsed by organizations such as Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) and National Emergency Nurses Affiliation (NENA) and we work in partnership with a Canada-wide network of over 16,000 hospitals, pharmacies, doctors’ offices, medical clinics, and public health centres who recommend MedicAlert to their patients.

We are a collaboration between parents, caregivers, clinicians, and research scientists. We want to transform the world of rare disease care to meet the needs of patients and their families. Our focus is the introduction of a new model of care that fosters innovative research. Health care agencies don't fund research and research agencies don't fund health care. This creates a problem when it comes to securing funding for work that can provide immediate benefits in treatment options. The Rare Disease Foundation fills the gap by providing funding to inspired clinicians and scientists for their patient-focused projects. Our goal is to support research that can directly impact the care and quality of life of a child with a rare disease. Grant requests are simplified to reduce red tape, vetted by both scientific and parent advisory panels, and funding decisions are made within 30 days of grant application to rapidly advance care solutions.

Despite significant reductions across the nation, tobacco use is still the number one cause of preventable death in the United States, killing more than 400,000 people every year. Since being established in 1999, the American Legacy Foundation (Legacy) has developed a comprehensive understanding of the tobacco crisis and the many issues that surround it. Legacy is the nation's largest and most effective independent public health charity dedicated to tobacco use prevention and smoking cessation. Our mission is to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. By giving young people the facts and information they need to reject tobacco and adult smokers the tools they need to quit and stay quit, Legacy is helping people live longer, healthier lives. Legacy employs community intervention and population-based public education strategies to reach current and potential tobacco users, customizing our approach to recognize, respect and address cultural differences.

The "Gaby Davis Foundation" was started in memory our daughter and friend Gabrielle Davis who lost her battle with childhood cancer in March 2007. Her brave fight against cancer inspired us to fulfill her wish to help other families fighting this terrible beast. Gaby experienced a life changing event with her diagnosis but instead of feeling sorry for herself it made her more sensitive to others' needs. During a visit to the hospital pharmacy Gaby witnessed a parent break down because they didn't have enough money to buy the drugs they needed to bring their child home. Gaby was quite shaken by the experience and shortly thereafter said this to her Dad... "Dad, we sure are lucky to have so many friends helping us. You think when my cancer is over, we can help people who don't have as many friends? I wish all the kids with cancer had enough money to do the stuff we get to do." Please help us to make this wish come true.

The Community Hospice is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization providing high quality end-of-life care to residents of eight counties covering over 4,000 square miles in Upstate New York State. Some of the most vulnerable people in our community are those who are struggling with advanced illness, facing the end of life, and recovering from the loss of a loved one. The Community Hospice is committed to serving these people. While insurance reimbursements cover most costs, they do not fund the programs and services that reach out to care for Hospice patients and families in a comprehensive way. No one is turned away due to financial need. That is where your active support comes in. You can join the caregiving team by considering a donation to The Community Hospice. Contributions provide funds for community bereavement services, community awareness, educational programs, and special services so that Hospice care is readily available, fully understood, and appropriately utilized by those in need. The liver is a resilient, maintenance-free organ that's easy to ignore - until something goes wrong. Because of its wide-ranging responsibilities, the liver often comes under attack by viruses, toxic substances (including alcohol), contaminants and disease. Even when it is under siege however, the liver is very slow to complain. Often, people with liver problems will be completely unaware because they may have few, if any, symptoms. The liver is such a stalwart organ that it will continue working even when two thirds of it has been damaged by scarring (cirrhosis). While there have been major advances in treating liver diseases, there are no cures. That's why it's important to take steps to prevent liver disease, such as making healthy lifestyle choices and getting immunized against viruses that can cause liver disease.

End Well is dedicated to the belief that all people should experience the end of life in a way that matches their values and goals. When faced with issues of mortality, we often suffer needlessly for a variety of reasons, from cultural and clinical to matters of access. End Well brings together a multidisciplinary community that unites design, technology, health, policy and activist initiative to transform how the world thinks about caregiving, grief, illness and the end of life experience with the ultimate goal of creating a future where ending well becomes a measure of living well.
