The Montreal Chapter of Dysautonomia was started in 1974 by the parents of children born with FD and supported by their family and friends. Today a new generation of parents, family and friends continue to support this cause still supported by its founding members. We promote awareness about the problems to over come when living with FD as well as raise money to contribute to the organizations that do clinical research of the disease and treatments for people with FD.
PLAN Calgary - The Road Ahead Society was established in response to the needs of families with disabled children and adults. We support families in three broad areas: 1. The establishment of a secure future in very practical ways, such as finances (trusts, estates and will planning etc.) and housing and home ownership. 2. Promotion and development of enduring circles of support, the facilitation of meaningful relationships – people who look out for the interests of the person in the way a family might. 3. Developing long term partnerships with foundations and companies in the Calgary area to build a sustainable future for our members.
Formed in 1987, this registered society provides physical, psychological and social benefits to all physically, mentally and emotionally challenged children and adults. All riders undergo a screening by the appropriate medical professional(s) prior to starting in the program. We have 8 different programs taught by counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers and instructors (who are certified through Equine Canada or the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association). Horses are chosen carefully for their patience and kindness. New volunteers are always welcome and they are trained to help out the riders. Today, with the help of over 135 volunteers, we have become the largest therapeutic riding program in British Columbia, with 130 clients attending per week.
