National Abortion Federation Canada was established to promote reproductive health among Canadian women. We serve not only physicians, but also other health care professionals who are important to the provision of abortion care including nurses, counselors, and administrators. They are members of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), the professional association of abortion providers in Canada and the U.S. Over 60% of the women who choose abortion each year in Canada are cared for by NAF members. Access to health care is guaranteed by the Canada Health Act. Abortion is considered a safe, legal, insured and funded service. Women should therefore not have to pay for abortion care in Canada, but access is variable. For example: • Since the majority of abortion care is provided in urban centres, women living in rural areas often face challenges in accessing care.
