Emfasis is the brainchild of a team of Greek citizens living overseas who work hand in hand with social experts and volunteers, providing a humanitarian response to Greece's dire needs during one of its deepest socio-economic crisis in history. Emfasis was founded to address the holistic needs of all vulnerable and socially excluded groups in need of social, psychological , family support using the principles of Social Street Working as its main way of approach and identification of such groups. It also offers advisory support whilst devising a full care programme for each case. Emfasis Social Street Work operates on a neighborhood level, or at areas where it has been identified that there are vulnerable "pockets" of population. Emfasis applies a personal approach when assessing the essential individual requirements of the person in need - seeking fist to restitute his/her dignity, and provide adequate social, emotional and human support Emfasis supports any individual in need irrespective of age or race and is committed to: a non-judgmental approach and anti-discriminatory practices respect for discretion and confidentiality adapting constantly act effectively and efficiently without being bogged down to bureaucracy and excessive planning Emfasis is a non-profit organisation relying entirely on private and individual funding

With the goal of helping under-served communities in India, Nepal, and Tibet receive the vital services they need, Karuna-Shechen was founded in 2000 by Matthieu Ricard (www.matthieuricard.org), renown TED speaker, author, and humanitarian. We strive to reduce inequalities and work toward a fairer and more compassionate world. We trust that communities can be lifted out of poverty, that change is possible, and that the well-being of every individual, regardless of race, gender, class, or caste, is essential. We believe that building on local strengths and knowledge is the most efficient way to respond to the specific needs and aspirations of our beneficiaries. Rooted in the ideal of "compassion in action", we serve others with joy and determination by cultivating altruism in our hearts and actions. We provide vulnerable and disadvantaged populations access to health care, education and vocational training, clean water, solar electricity, and other sustainable solutions that offer options to find a livelihood and a better life. We work with a grassroots network of local partners, and give special attention to the education and empowerment of girls and women. Karuna-Shechen's name expresses its mission while paying homage to its roots: Karuna means "compassion" in Sanskrit, and Shechen is the name of a major monastery in Tibet.

Next Door Solutions’ (NDS) mission is to end domestic violence in the moment… and for all time by helping survivors rebuild their lives. NDS serves women and children who are financially, ethnically and linguistically diverse: • Crisis Services: 24/7 Emergency Shelter and Hotline – women and children receive safe haven from abuse, and safety planning and other supportive services; callers seeking crisis counseling, vital information and referrals receive an immediate live voice response by a highly trained bilingual English/Spanish Advocate. • Community and Systems Advocacy - clients receive peer counseling, safety plan development, legal advocacy, and assurance and comfort. • Support Groups - Women connect and create a healing environment for each other through 16 groups throughout the county • Self-Sufficiency Program – women empower themselves and enhance their financial independence and self-sufficiency through comprehensive, compassionate, woman-defined case management, workshops in financial literacy, job readiness, and educational advancement, and permanent housing.

Tiempo de Juego is a non-profit entity that seeks to foster the adequate use of free time among children and youth in the most vulnerable areas of Colombia. The foundation seeks to distance children from the social ills that surround them and educate them through strategies such as sports and cultural activities. Tiempo de Juego's mission is to spawn social cohesion and development through sports, cultural, recreational, and formative tools whose purpose is the generation of competencies, promotion of values, and the effective use of free time in a responsible and conscientious manner, generating a positive and replicable impact towards a better quality of life for the community and its surroundings. Tiempo de Juego was established in 2006, as a project for the "Communication for Development" program through the "Universidad de la Sabana". After an exhaustive study for more than three years in Cazuca, one of the most marginalized, deprived and violent areas of our country, it was detected that the lack of education and excess of time of the youth, and the fact about 70 percent of the population is classified displaced, was making them more vulnerable to joining different gangs, drug addiction, incurring early pregnancies, as well as being part of the armed outlaw groups that recruit them for very little money. Using soccer as a recreational tool for value formation, accompanied by art workshops, cultural and educational courses, we gathered 400 children between 5 and 18, and the foundation began to inculcate the proper use of leisure time as a positive and useful way to encourage the kids into a brighter and more positive future. Ever since Tiempo de Juego began to operate, the children and young people have changed as has the neighborhood environment. When they celebrate goals or they read a book, this does not seem the most depressing sector of Cundinamarca area, which according to official statistics, over the past 5 years, has had more than 850 murders of young people; this is the area with the highest rate of displacement population second to Choco. A zone where poverty and malnutrition, joining the gangs to participate in the conflict is just a daily experience, where those who are growing only aspire to be part of an armed group that inhabit the area. Tiempo de Juego uses soccer as its main intervention tool to address social problems due to its capacity to convene people and its pedagogical possibilities. The foundation belongs to the football street world network, associated to the FIFA, and applies the FIFA approved rules of street football as the mechanism for the formation of values, formal education as a basis of democracy and the cultural workshops looking to build a fairer society. Also, we work out the values with the parents to achieve a proper family environment. Since 2008, Tiempo de Juego has opened another chapter in Cartagena, Atlantic Cost City, making possible those children and youth of "Las Faldas de la Popa" also to receive these benefits and rights.

YOUTH FOR CHRIST - GENERAL OVERVIEW The NGO Youth for Christ in Montevideo, Uruguay. Youth for Christ is an autonomous, non-profit organization. Since it began 40 years ago, Youth for Christ has worked actively to come along side marginalized population in Uruguay through formal programs. Our action is oriented primarily toward children, adolescents, young people and their families on three levels of intervention: - Personal (seeking holistic development) - Within the family and community (work to strengthen families, develop local networks, and encourage participation) - Political and structural (participate in constructing Social Policies and effective methods of intervention) In 1989, we began to work formally with the State and formed the Civil Society Organization Youth for Christ, Uruguay. Since then we have operated collectively with State organisms, International Organisms, and a wide variety of NGOs (non-government organizations) that work in the country. In Youth for Christ we run politically as a civil society organization. The General Assembly of partners is the sovereign body, which appoints a Board of Directors. This Board operates on an honorary basis and has a predetermined term of service. Youth for Christ works with a clear north, challenging but possible with Jesus Christ, which we express with simplicity in our mission: - Promote a culture in tune with the gospel and its values of justice, peace, solidarity, tolerance, love, and respect for the diversity. - For part of the Youth for Christ International family, adhering to the shared vision and mission of the organization.

To establish model medical facilities in order to alleviate the sufferings of poor and resource less patients and provide them quality medical care. To help the humanity in distress at times of natural calamities like Earth Quakes, Accidents, IDPs crisis and so forth. To conduct training programmes for Community Health Workers in collaboration with other community based organizations and donor agencies. To create awareness among the general public for improvement of their health through health education. To help deserving and talented students and provide financial support to widows and poor families who cannot afford treatment on their own. To achieve simple treatment goals through cost effective local medicines including Herbs and Folk Home Remedies designed to cure as many patients as possible with few side effects. To provide best possible treatment to the poor and needy patients through qualified and specialist doctors. To develop a Health Education Programme designed to improve the quality of life through preventative measures. To conduct training programmes for Community Health Workers in collaboration with other community based organizations and donor agencies. To establish a Centre of Excellence for the treatment of Tuberculosis (in line with WHOs, DOT programme), Hepatitis-C and other Infectious Diseases. To provide immediate relief in case of natural disasters and calamities and also to take active part in rehabilitation of the affected population.

The sexual harassment that has been reported in the last few months has been both horrific and illuminating. We stand with the brave individuals who have come forward, at great risk to themselves, to protect others from similar behavior. The National Women’s Law Center is excited to announce the launch of the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund. The TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund, which is housed at and administered by the National Women’s Law Center, connects those who experience sexual misconduct including assault, harassment, abuse and related retaliation in the workplace or in trying to advance their careers with legal and public relations assistance. The Fund will help defray legal and public relations costs in select cases based on criteria and availability of funds. Donations to the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund are tax deductible through the Direct Impact Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or through the National Women’s Law Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The initiative was spearheaded by actors and others in the entertainment industry, attorneys Tina Tchen and Roberta Kaplan, and top public relations professionals. Women in Hollywood came together around their own experience of harassment and assault, and were moved by the outpouring of support and solidarity against sexual harassment from women across sectors. This inspired them to help create a Fund to help survivors of sexual harassment and retaliation in all industries—especially low-income women and people of color. They worked together in an historic first to design a structure that would be both inclusive and effective. The Fund will be housed and administered by the National Women’s Law Center and the participating attorneys will be working with the Center’s Legal Network for Gender Equity. Access to prompt and comprehensive legal and communications help will empower individuals and help fuel long-term systemic change. This Fund will enable more individuals to come forward and be connected with lawyers — regardless of industry, rank or role. Countless activists, celebrities, and other donors want to see an end to a culture that allows sexual harassment and retaliation of those who courageously step forward to go unpunished. This effort is not just to support women in Hollywood, but others in need – the factory worker, the waitress, the teacher, the office worker, and others subjected to this unacceptable behavior. Now is the time to finally stop the sexual harassment and retaliation that has often gone unchecked.

"Connecting Cambodian Youth to the skills, opportunities, and inspirations needed to reach their potential." This is the mission of PEPY Empowering Youth, a local non-profit (NGO) focused on educating and empowering youth in underserved and remote communities outside of Siem Reap city. With their team's intimate understanding of barriers affecting students' ability to move onto higher education (many team members are former beneficiaries of PEPY's projects), PEPY staff often become student's first role models while building their capacity to achieve their dreams through academic, technical, and professional training- enabling them to make changes they wish to see in their communities. Through PEPY, students' rates of moving onto higher education and obtaining skilled employment are increasing. PEPY's approach to education development is different because they focus on high school and higher education students, an age group often overlooked, while targeting remote areas where higher education is uncommon and often financially impossible. PEPY's programs are comprehensive and go beyond typical scholarship programs, guaranteeing that students graduate and all of them find jobs while they are still in school.

Watson Children's Shelter is dedicated to providing emergency shelter care in a safe and nurturing environment to children who have experienced abuse, neglect and/or family crisis. Our primary intervention program, Healthy Foundations, works with expecting families in our community from prenatal care through 3-5 years of age, providing support and connecting parents to resources that will allow them to provide the lives they wish for their children. We serve over 100 children through our shelter care facility each year, for days, weeks, months, or years at a time, reaching all of Montana from the heart of Missoula. Watson has continued to grow over the years, and our vision for the future would allow us to provide more personalized therapeutic care across the duration of our children's stays. Action for Development assists communities in the achievement of their own development goals. In other words, it aims at ensuring a certain relief for the Afghan population through development programs. Our efforts are spent in ways that maximize the impact of any of our actions and we remain fully accountable to communities where our programs take place. The sustainability of any development program lies within the communities' acceptance of the change. For our action to produce lasting results, communities have to guide the use of resources and learn the managerial and technical skills to do so. This is why our approach is fundamentally community-based. We seek to provide fractured, new, or changing communities with opportunities to work together for a common purpose and the ability to undertake future endeavors of their own. Participation transforms communities into effective teams. Community involvement in project implementation, and interaction with development organizations leaves them more enabled, ensuring that subsequent programs have lasting effects. Community familiarity with the programs leaves them with expectations. These expectations drive the performance of future implementers and encourage them to engage in a process of learning. Thus the dynamics of development change. AfD also emphasizes collaboration with vertical programs and asks of other organizations what we ask of our team members - "How can we make sure that a wide range of health services are provided to people?" AfD believes that yields from separate but related development efforts are maximized through the integration and harmonization of programs. Today's efforts and resources should be used to enhance opportunities for a healthy and prosperous life. Damayan means “to help each other” in Filipino. Damayan is a grassroots organization based in New York and New Jersey of and for Filipino im/migrant workers and led by Filipino women domestic workers. Damayan was officially founded in 2002 and became a 501(c)(3) in 2003. Our mission is to educate, organize and mobilize low wage Filipino workers to fight for their labor, health, gender and im/migration rights; to contribute to the building of the domestic workers movement for fair labor standards, dignity and justice; and to build workers’ power and solidarity towards justice and liberation. We promote discussions on gender, race, class, globalization and forced migration to raise public awareness and support against the systemic causes of the exploitation of low wage workers, particularly migrant women domestic workers. Damayan advocates against the labor export program of the Philippines and exposes corporate neoliberal economic policies in the country as the primary root of the chronic poverty and widespread unemployment that push filipinos, mostly women, to migrate to foreign lands in search of livelihood. Currently, 12 million filipinos, over 10 percent of the country’s population, are overseas as migrant workers in about 200 countries around the globe. Last year, they sent home $20. 1 billion in remittances to support their families, thus propping up the Philipppines’ economy while working in conditions of widespread poverty and abuse. In november 2011, Damayan launched its flagship campaign, “Baklas” (meaning to dismantle and break free) against the labor trafficking and modern slavery of Filipino workers. In a holistic approach to address the various problems of Filipino workers, Famayan implements programs on labor, health, gender and im/migration. Using these services, we build our membership program and the workers leadership program.
