Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International of the Americas is an international organization for business and professional women who provide volunteer service to their communities. About 45,000 Soroptimists in 20 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects benefiting women and girls. Soroptimist International of the Americas is part of Soroptimist International, which comprises almost 95,000 members in about 120 countries.The name, Soroptimist, means 'best for women,' and that's what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best working to help other women to be their best.Soroptimist members belong to local clubs, which determine the focus of service to their communities. Club projects range from renovating domestic violence shelters, to providing mammograms to low-income women, to sponsoring self-esteem workshops for teenage girls. In addition, Soroptimists participate in organization-wide programs that include the Women's Opportunity Awards, Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls, the Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence, the Making a Difference for Women Award and the Violet Richardson Award. All projects seek to make life better for women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.

The National Network of Abortion Funds builds power with members to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersections of racial, economic, and reproductive justice. This is the national organization. There are regional chapters that have their own identify and can be donated to separately.

The Family Place empowers victims of family violence by providing safe housing, counseling and skills that create independence while building community engagement and advocating for social change to stop family violence.

Mission: We are committed to a culture of responsibility and dignity and to leading our local community in the fight against hunger by efficiently providing access to food and nutritious meals. Feeding San Diego builds local and national partnerships with purpose. Founded in 2007 by the wildfires in San Diego, Feeding San Diego is now the leading hunger-relief organization in the county, distributing healthy food with dignity to San Diego residents struggling with hunger. Our non-profit organization, funded by philanthropic and community support, is devoted to feeding the hungry, advocacy and education. FSD is committed to solving hunger in our communities and informing the public on the issues of food insecurity, nutrition and poverty. We fight hunger locally by working hand-in-hand with partner agencies, local school districts, corporate partners and a network of volunteers to serve 63,000 children, families and seniors in need each week. This past year, we provided over 25 million meals to San Diegans struggling with food insecurity - an 18 percent increase from the previous year, which indicates that more families in need are seeking our services than ever before. Each year, Feeding San Diego is working to move more food into the community in order to close the meal gap. Feeding San Diego takes a holistic approach to solving hunger and food-related issues in our community. We fight hunger locally by working hand-in-hand with 150 agency partners (food pantries, soup kitchens, healthcare centers and other community resources) and through direct service programs in areas central to clients' lives (School Pantries, Mobile Pantry sites, senior centers, USO sites) to provide healthy food with dignity to 63,000 children, families and seniors in need each week. Our unique distribution model, which leverages both national and local partnerships, ensures that we are not simply banking food - we are Feeding San Diego. In addition to our food-service programs, Feeding San Diego acts as an advocate at the local and state level to protect government hunger-relief services like CalFresh. CalFresh is an assistance program crucial to helping low-income, food-insecure families stretch their grocery budgets, freeing limited resources for use on other household essentials. Feeding San Diego holds numerous outreach events designed to help clients determine their CalFresh eligibility and apply to the program.

About Us: Our Bridgeport club was founded in 1992, and is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas which was founded in 1921. Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. A 501(c)(3) organization, Soroptimist relies on charitable contributions to fund its programs. Local members join with almost 100,000 Soroptimists in more than120 countries and territories to contribute time and financial support to community-based projects benefiting women. Soroptimist International has consultative status with the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council, which oversees U.N. activities promoting human rights. In addition to sponsoring the awards programs, our club has participated in community programs focused on various health and human service issues for women and girls, such as the Center for Women and Families, Mi Casa/My Home, Women and Men’s Health Project, Project Courage, and Local Soup Kitchens. The Raleigh Club is focused on improving the economic independence of women and ending violence against women.  In addition, Soroptimists participate in organization-wide programs that include the Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards, Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls, the Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence, the Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women, and the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award.  International projects have included partnerships with Women for Women International, and through Project SIerra, Hope and Homes for Children in Sierra Leone.
