Our mission is to connect young people to a world of career possibilities, inspire them to dream big, and empower them to fulfil their potential. We do this by operating as a hub for education and employer engagement: running events in schools and businesses, providing a mentoring programme for young people at risk, facilitating work experience placements, and promoting apprenticeships and other education or employment pathways to students, teachers and parents. By giving young people access to a wide range of professionals from their local business community, we help them make informed decisions about their future careers. We are particularly concerned that young people learn about opportunities with huge growth potential - like careers in STEM - and are challenged to achieve their full potential. We are actively working to address gender bias and create opportunities for all.
Our mission is to promote dignity, community, and self-sufficiency by working with marginalized populations in rural Honduras on a long-term basis, facilitating access to health care, education, and livable wages. Our comprehensive approach to grassroots community development promotes local traditions, encourages community leadership, and emphasizes collective ownership. Un Mundo seeks to improve the present and future socio-economic conditions and the quality of life of the families in rural Honduras who are living in extreme poverty by providing them with tools and resources to be self-sufficient and unified. Our work began from spontaneous relief actions after Hurricane Mitch devastated Honduras in 1998, and we grew to gain 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 2001. Initially, the organization was sustained by the generosity of international volunteers, but we have gradually evolved such that more and more of our project work is managed by local Honduran leaders. Within a few years, we expect that we will be able to realize our vision of seeing equitable, fruitful, life-giving projects in the Cangrejal River Valley being 100% run by the local communities.

Founded in 1902, the mission of the SPCA of Tompkins County is to protect companion animals. We are the first open-admission, no-kill shelter in the country dedicated to preventing animal cruelty and overpopulation. not only do we steward animals, but the environment as well. our “green” shelter, known as the Dorothy and Roy Park Pet Adoption Center, was LEED- Certified Silver in 2004—the first shelter to achieve this status in the united States. our best practices in shelter operations and programs serve as effective examples for other shelters across the country striving to achieve no-kill status. We strive to foster a community in which the need for sheltering abandoned, neglected and homeless and abused animals is diminished; and we work ceaselessly to place medically and behaviorally healthy, treatable or manageable animals in loving homes. We provide leadership in cruelty investigation initiatives, educational outreach, and pet population control. We promote responsible pet stewardship by providing behavioral issues-counseling as needed for adopted animals and their owners, as well as behavior training for shelter dogs to increase adoption rates and ultimately nurture and enhance the human-animal bond.
Community Voices Heard is an organization of low income people, mostly women on welfare and public housing residents, working together to improve the lives of our members' families and all poor people in New York City and State. We are directed, run and being built by low-income people. We are a growing grass roots organization that uses public education, public policy research, community organizing, leadership development, voter education & mobilization, and direct action issue organizing to build our membership and to organize around issues that are defined by our membershiwe broadly define "welfare activism" to be multi issue, and thus must include issues such as education, training, jobs, housing, economic development and other community issues. We fill a critical gap in that our organization connects public policy with grass roots organizing and leadership development.
Computers For Schools Burundi 's organization has ambitions and multiple programs dedicated to the children/youth and the population in general in Burundi, in areas such as environment, education, agriculture, Leadership and entrepreneurship development and many more. With respect to education, our objective is to help develop education systems which are producers of the labor force and the intellectuals, by providing access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), which will facilitate: The use of digitized documents (powerful tools for the processing Of information: text, sound, image). Global access to information resources The provision of new tools for access to knowledge for students Communication and collaboration. Computer skills have become the basic knowledge required, needed to be efficient and cost-effective in the 21 Century where advanced technology has become an integral part of our daily lives. The first priority is access to technology (ICT): CFSB first priority is to be able to offer computers for schools and help teach students how to use it. The main component of the ICT concept is the computer, preferably with Internet access. With this, comes the need to provide computers, a computer program of first class for students and training for the teachers. The second priority is the access to information: The second priority for CFSB in the educational system is to connect the Digital Centers to the internet and finally to interconnect the schools of Burundi (education, research and communication) enabling them to participate fully in the global economy. For the above reasons, CFSB, a non-profit organization, is looking for partners with whom he can work to achieve these ambitious goals and bring hope to millions of young people, hungry to learn and contribute positively to build a better world, far from violence, crime and wars. The objective of the mission is to promote computer skills through the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for youth and communities in Burundi, to succeed in the modern economy of the 21st century by reducing poverty in their country. By helping to provide access to the Internet for educational institutions, CFSB is working to make ICT accessible to students on campuses and schools in Burundi. CFSB wants to help schools and universities to become familiar with computers and the internet to build a better future and thus make the internet accessible to the majority of young people of the developing countries to create a productive workforce.
Libraries Without Borders is an international nonprofit that expands access to information, education and cultural resources to vulnerable populations around the world. Our interventions address the structural causes of economic and human underdevelopment, reduce the digital divide, and promote cultural resilience. By focusing on the curation and customization of educational materials, along with the logistics and security involved with delivery, storage and construction of learning spaces, we have been able to develop innovative programs, create and re-envision library spaces and support librarians in over 25 countries. Most recently, we received the Library of Congress' International Literacy Award (2016) and won the Google Impact Challenge (2015). We advocate the idea of the library as a toolbox for communities to disseminate knowledge, promote social harmony, accompany the least fortunate, and ultimately, pursue human and economic development. We work in five areas of intervention: 1. EDUCATION LWB establishes libraries and information resource centers in universities and schools. This support manifests itself in the donation of materials, technical equipment, texts, and multimedia and electronic resources. LWB also provides support to teachers in their education responsibilities by putting in place educational resource centers as well as creating educational digital content. 2. INFORMATION AND CULTURE LWB supports the development of structures providing access to books, information and culture in developing countries. LWB enters into partnerships with libraries to help them develop their textual and digital resources and set up quality cultural programs. LWB also accompanies the creation of cultural projects for specific and disadvantaged groups such as visually impaired persons, prisoners and refugee populations. 3. CAPACITY BUILDING LWB initiates innovative specialized resource projects to reinforce the capacities of specific groups such as professionals from the medical or justice sectors. In facilitating access to verified and quality-controlled information, LWB accompanies their daily work in servicing their communities as well as their scientific research. 4. CONSERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE LWB assists in the conservation and promotion of local written or oral heritage through the creation of specialized structures (libraries, cultural centers) and the training of personnel in these professions. Within the framework of promoting local knowledge and supporting publishers in developing countries, LWB also promotes the diffusion of local literature. 5. CULTURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP LWB works alongside cultural entrepreneurs to design innovative and sustainable economic models. By setting up income-generating activities and training in management strategies, libraries are re-invented as social and cultural entrepreneurs with major economic benefits for their communities.
Emfasis is the brainchild of a team of Greek citizens living overseas who work hand in hand with social experts and volunteers, providing a humanitarian response to Greece's dire needs during one of its deepest socio-economic crisis in history. Emfasis was founded to address the holistic needs of all vulnerable and socially excluded groups in need of social, psychological , family support using the principles of Social Street Working as its main way of approach and identification of such groups. It also offers advisory support whilst devising a full care programme for each case. Emfasis Social Street Work operates on a neighborhood level, or at areas where it has been identified that there are vulnerable "pockets" of population. With the goal of helping under-served communities in India, Nepal, and Tibet receive the vital services they need, Karuna-Shechen was founded in 2000 by Matthieu Ricard (www.matthieuricard.org), renown TED speaker, author, and humanitarian. We strive to reduce inequalities and work toward a fairer and more compassionate world. We trust that communities can be lifted out of poverty, that change is possible, and that the well-being of every individual, regardless of race, gender, class, or caste, is essential. Karuna-Shechen's name expresses its mission while paying homage to its roots: Karuna means "compassion" in Sanskrit, and Shechen is the name of a major monastery in Tibet.
Next Door Solutions’ (NDS) mission is to end domestic violence in the moment… and for all time by helping survivors rebuild their lives. NDS serves women and children who are financially, ethnically and linguistically diverse: • Crisis Services: 24/7 Emergency Shelter and Hotline – women and children receive safe haven from abuse, and safety planning and other supportive services; callers seeking crisis counseling, vital information and referrals receive an immediate live voice response by a highly trained bilingual English/Spanish Advocate. • Community and Systems Advocacy - clients receive peer counseling, safety plan development, legal advocacy, and assurance and comfort. • Support Groups - Women connect and create a healing environment for each other through 16 groups throughout the county • Self-Sufficiency Program – women empower themselves and enhance their financial independence and self-sufficiency through comprehensive, compassionate, woman-defined case management, workshops in financial literacy, job readiness, and educational advancement, and permanent housing.
Tiempo de Juego is a non-profit entity that seeks to foster the adequate use of free time among children and youth in the most vulnerable areas of Colombia. The foundation seeks to distance children from the social ills that surround them and educate them through strategies such as sports and cultural activities. Tiempo de Juego's mission is to spawn social cohesion and development through sports, cultural, recreational, and formative tools whose purpose is the generation of competencies, promotion of values, and the effective use of free time in a responsible and conscientious manner, generating a positive and replicable impact towards a better quality of life for the community and its surroundings. Tiempo de Juego was established in 2006, as a project for the "Communication for Development" program through the "Universidad de la Sabana". After an exhaustive study for more than three years in Cazuca, one of the most marginalized, deprived and violent areas of our country, it was detected that the lack of education and excess of time of the youth, and the fact about 70 percent of the population is classified displaced, was making them more vulnerable to joining different gangs, drug addiction, incurring early pregnancies, as well as being part of the armed outlaw groups that recruit them for very little money. Using soccer as a recreational tool for value formation, accompanied by art workshops, cultural and educational courses, we gathered 400 children between 5 and 18, and the foundation began to inculcate the proper use of leisure time as a positive and useful way to encourage the kids into a brighter and more positive future. Ever since Tiempo de Juego began to operate, the children and young people have changed as has the neighborhood environment. When they celebrate goals or they read a book, this does not seem the most depressing sector of Cundinamarca area, which according to official statistics, over the past 5 years, has had more than 850 murders of young people; this is the area with the highest rate of displacement population second to Choco. A zone where poverty and malnutrition, joining the gangs to participate in the conflict is just a daily experience, where those who are growing only aspire to be part of an armed group that inhabit the area. Tiempo de Juego uses soccer as its main intervention tool to address social problems due to its capacity to convene people and its pedagogical possibilities. The foundation belongs to the football street world network, associated to the FIFA, and applies the FIFA approved rules of street football as the mechanism for the formation of values, formal education as a basis of democracy and the cultural workshops looking to build a fairer society. Also, we work out the values with the parents to achieve a proper family environment. Since 2008, Tiempo de Juego has opened another chapter in Cartagena, Atlantic Cost City, making possible those children and youth of "Las Faldas de la Popa" also to receive these benefits and rights.
YOUTH FOR CHRIST - GENERAL OVERVIEW The NGO Youth for Christ in Montevideo, Uruguay. Youth for Christ is an autonomous, non-profit organization. Since it began 40 years ago, Youth for Christ has worked actively to come along side marginalized population in Uruguay through formal programs. Our action is oriented primarily toward children, adolescents, young people and their families on three levels of intervention: - Personal (seeking holistic development) - Within the family and community (work to strengthen families, develop local networks, and encourage participation) - Political and structural (participate in constructing Social Policies and effective methods of intervention) In 1989, we began to work formally with the State and formed the Civil Society Organization Youth for Christ, Uruguay. Since then we have operated collectively with State organisms, International Organisms, and a wide variety of NGOs (non-government organizations) that work in the country. In Youth for Christ we run politically as a civil society organization. The General Assembly of partners is the sovereign body, which appoints a Board of Directors. This Board operates on an honorary basis and has a predetermined term of service. Youth for Christ works with a clear north, challenging but possible with Jesus Christ, which we express with simplicity in our mission: - Promote a culture in tune with the gospel and its values of justice, peace, solidarity, tolerance, love, and respect for the diversity. - For part of the Youth for Christ International family, adhering to the shared vision and mission of the organization.
